Accelerated BSN online in the NY area

Published

This is my first post, so please don't bash me if I say something wrong. I have been obsessed with this forum, and all the help and answers that are available so here goes:

I want to do an online accelerated BSN because I must continue to work (circumstances don't give me another choice). However (except for one university in Washington that dont acept NY students) all the online programs require your clinicals to be done in their local hospital. So here are a few questions:

1. Are there any online or hybrid (online and some in class) programs in NYC area?

2. Are there any programs in NYC area that let you do night courses or have some flexible class schedule?

3. Do you know if its even an option to do your clinicals at night?

4. How long do clinicals last per semester - if its just crammed into 2-3 weeks each semester, I can definitely get away with doing that out of town?

Any help and/or leads will be appreciated

I did ABSN in '06. These questions really you need to research at the schools. Use google and find ABSN programs near you. Then talk with the schools. If you are asking my experience no clinicals are not crammed into 2-3 weeks. We went one time a week for all the classes requiring clinicals for all the semesters. You have to get a ton of work done in basically 4 semesters. I was doing 21 hours a semester. Good luck.

That is exactly what I have been doing, and its becoming layers of an onion. The more I dig, the more that comes up but you would be surprised at how many nuggets of information I am picking up on this site that just isn't advertised online, and don't come up online when you do searches. I have found back ended comments in some of the forums and topics that I have read that yield tons of information, so anyone that throws me a bone and comes up with an idea or thought is always helpful. Just a few minutes ago, I discovered that Dominican college in NY offers a weekend accelerated program - something that I would seriously consider - it doesn't bother me that it is two years as long that I can continue working.

I would even look for accelerated programs that let me do it part time i.e. instead of completing it in 12-16 months, do it overa longer period but gives me greater flexibility

How close to the city do you need it to be? Mount Saint Mary's in Newburgh, NY offers an ABSN program that is at night. You go anywhere from 2-4 nights per week in short semesters (6-8 weeks each). I think the classes are 6-9:55pm, if I remember correctly.

That is awesome! Thanks for that tip. This is what I mean - despite sifting through tens of sites and links, I did not know this.
