Accelerated BSN or Direct Entry Masters Students, Come in!

Published

Just curious as to where you go to school, how you like it, what your long-term goal is, and any other info you feel like sharing! :)

I am looking at Accerlated BSN programs and Direct Entry Masters programs around the country, since only one very competitive program exists in San Diego. My goal is to be a FNP someday, hopefully sooner than later. :)

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Suzanne... wow, the answer to your question is complicated. E me privately at xxxxx at yahoo dot com, and I will give you a lengthy but hopefully insightful answer. I don't want to bore anyone here.

Found out a couple of weeks ago that I'd been accepted into my first-choice accelerated BSN program. The euphoria lasted about a week, and now the reality is starting to hit me :stone It's going to be difficult and expensive, and it's a competitive school, but I'm still thrilled.

My program used to require immediate articulation into the masters program, but that was changed just this year. It was shortened from 16 or 20 months to twelve months and only gets you a BSN. I'm grateful for that--I want to work awhile before going for a masters.

What school were you accepted to? And Congratulations! :)

Thanks for your responses everyone! I'm really excited to be on this path, and just have to keep that in mind through all my prereqs. :)

Hopegirl, what pre-reqs are you doing? I'll be taking Pathophysiology this spring, then starting my program in May.

Hey there,

I am starting fresh with all my science courses, so I am taking Human Physiology this semester, starting at the end of Jan. Good luck to you!

I just put in my aps to 2 direct entry master's programs- BC and MGH institute in MA and I hope to hear by March. I have a BA in lit and am currently a stay at home mom. I have done most of my pre-reqs and did pretty well on the gres but I'm feeling insecure about my chances. These programs are pretty competitive.

Jess: Try not to stress. I was incredibly nervous about getting into my program, but I got in and felt silly for being so worried. :chuckle Easier said than done, but try ;)

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) I just sent my aps in last week and already the suspense is kiling me! :D

Looking at your stats, I'd say you have a great chance of getting in to BC's or MGH's accelerated program. I'm applying to both schools as well (and Northeastern) for the fall term. I'll have my BSN this June . Hey, maybe we'll be classmates!! Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much straba! I just found out today that BC isn't doing any interviews this year (I had heard they did in past years) so we really won't hear anything till March from BC or MGH. I have a friend who is applying to Northeastern and he said they are supposed to be calling people for interviews the last week in January.

Good luck and hope to see you at one of these schools in the fall!

I was accepted to the 12-month Accelerated BSN program at William Jewell College, which is located just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. I will be starting in May.

I am very excited, but also very nervous financially about leaving a full-time job and returning to school.

I wish everybody the best of luck!!

Hello there,

Nice to find this thread.

I am very glad to discover direct entry MSN programs. I am applying to University of Illinois at Chicago for their next rotation. Early consideration is March first and I am finishing up my application packet.

I complete my BA this semester. Originally I went back to school in order to become a nurse but managed to stretch it out for just over six years! I did end up making my BA in Soc with minors in Psych and Spanish and my AAS is in Biology. I also have the pre-reqs complete.

I figured I would just go to a local Junior college after completing my BA because there are only six classes left towards completion of the ADN. While researching scholarships for that I found UIC's graduate entry program and thought, "OHMYGOSH!"

I am still applying to the local Jr. college, (they are my back-up though in case I do not get accepted or cannot get enough scholarships to afford the GEP program.)

Good luck!!!

p.s. hoping to eventually become a nurse colposcopist
