ABSN - GPA chances

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all!! I am in my junior year at Florida State and will be graduating as a child development major. I plan on attending an accelerated nursing program anywhere in the northeast! I would love some insight from people who will also be applying in the coming months and from prior applicants. As of right now I have a 3.6 cumulative GPA, but not the greatest science GPA (chem and anatomy 1&2). I am taking Microbio in the fall and plan on getting A’s
Chem: C

Anatomy 1: C (in both lecture and lab)

Anatomy 2: A (in both lecture and lab)

Based off this, would I have retake anatomy 1 lecture and lab or count on my cumulative GPA to balance it out?

Depends on the programs you are considering, their admission/selection criteria, and other factors. Many schools do not allow repetition of a course where one earned at least a C. All have their rules, which may differ from each other, about how they look at your academic record. Also, there is the question of the demographics of your competition. If a class of 40 is filled with 40 applicants with a 4.0 overall GPA, everyone else just wasted their time applying there. Best way to find out how to approach this is to glean info from the program website, call and talk to an advisor with any questions, and/or attend all information sessions that the schools provide. Some schools don’t even accept your application unless you attended an info session. All these basic requirements should be found on the program’s website.
