Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
I woke up this morning feeling like I'd had some wonderful dream. It took me a minute to realize it had actually happened! :)I suppose I can rally around 'Go Blue Devils,' but I don't much care about hoops and ACC football... oy. Hope there's a bar somewhere getting the SEC games in!
As a die-hard Illini fan and a staunch defender of anti-BigTen trash talk, I have railed against picking one of the Triangle's storied ACC basketball teams to receive the honor of my fan-ship. Thanks to the 2005 tourney, I obviously can't be a Carolina fan, I couldn't care less about State, and I have found Duke and their fan base to be really, really annoying. Still, I am grateful to now become a Duke fan, especially because now one of my teams will not be a heart-attack-inducing disaster every season. I heartily recommend embracing Duke and their winning record as a nice warm and fuzzy way to start caring about basketball. :)
Oh, and as far as getting SEC games on the teevee at area bars, etc., all I can say is good luck! It probably won't be as bad as my experiences trying to watch the Illini recently, when they were trying to blow a great lead, were down 2 with 2 minutes left, and every available channel seemed to be playing the tipoff of a Gonzaga game.
Illini, eh? Thanks for taking Zook off our hands.
It's not that I don't enjoy basketball, but for some reason I can't get into it on TV. I loved covering the 2006 and 2007 tournaments and Final Fours (I was a photojournalist before jumping into this career change) but on TV it's just kind of boring. Or maybe it's because I've only been watching Florida's team on TV and they're just absolutely terrible now.
So, go Blue Devils! I'll cheer for them if I ever have the free time to do so while we're in this program. Guess I'll have to buy a few shirts... I have plenty of blue, but it's all got orange on it.
Okay, cool. I mean, I know they probably have quite a few applications to deal with so I'm gonna try to be patient but man, I hope I get *some* sort of scholarship.
I have so many questions! When do we register? Get syllabi? Get book lists? Supplies? It's only February! How is August so far away?

THis is not what I wanted to hear. Time Warner is the cable company there, right? I'm an Iowa Hawkeye and was hoping, by some small small chance they might carry the Big 10 Network. I mean, is there ANY bar that will show Big 10 games?

Did anyone else apply for the need-based scholarship? I lucked out completely by accident, but by quitting my job end of Dec 2008 and only working as a part-time server, it lowered my EFC by a HUGE amount. I knew I wasn't going to get the other 2 (or was it 3?) scholarships so I didn't even bother.
Also, in terms of housing, how are you long distance peeps going to find housing? Are you flying out again to look at apts?
Yeah, I lost my job last July and business has been terrible, so my EFC is zero. I am the very definition of "need-based." I applied to that and the Rise to the Challenge one. Hopefully I can get *some* help.
I don't know if I count as "long distance" since we drove up the last time, but yes, we're planning on making another weekend trip up to find housing. I'm trying to do as much pre-searching online as I can, but it's a little overwhelming.

Good luck Maryash, and thanks for freeing up a spot for us waitlisters!! :) I'm DEFINITELY someone who would fully appreciate a spot in the program and give it 100%! I'll need to keep reminding myself to eat and breathe until I get a letter
