ABSN at Azusa Pacific or ASN at a community college

Hello All, I am new to allnurses.com. Joined the site because I am making a complete career change and needed to be among people within the nursing community. Currently an auditor with a B.A. degree in Human Services. I have been researching schools and attending information sessions. Attended a session yesterday for an accelerated BSN and was in total shock when I was told that the ASBN program was 3 years at $42,000 a year for a total of $126,000...WOW. Anyway, I have found cheaper programs for the ASBN, and ranging from 12 - 18 months...Azusa Pacific University, specifically. I have also been looking into community colleges and well aware that they are impacted. I start school in August to fulfill the science requirements and it will take 2 semesters if I take Chemistry and Anatomy in the fall, and Physiology and Microbiology in the Spring. With all that being said...not quite sure which route to take! To anyone that can provide any information, I pose the following questions:

1. How difficult would it be to take the 2 sciences at the same time?

2. I work full-time but my job is flexible and if accepted into a program I will be able to work part-time and will be able to study at work...is this doable while attending a ABSN program? I absolutely need some income!

3. At APU, are you able to pick your own class schedule, as far as times and days that you take your classes?

4. Is anyone here attending APU, if so, how has your experience been?

5. Is it recommended that I wait to get into a community college and complete the ASN, then go back to school for my BSN...which may take YEARS?

I'm sure as the thread goes on I will have more questions :uhoh3:.

ALL THE PEOPLE WHO TRIED TO WORK FULL TIME FAILED OUT OF MY ABSN...YOU CAN'T WORK FULL TIME REALISTICALLY

NO, NOT EVEN CLOSE PREPARE TO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME FOR ANYTHING BUT SCHOOL, CLINICAL, AND STUDYING

4. Is anyone here attending APU, if so, how has your experience been? FANTASTIC PROGRAM, COMPETITIVE

5. Is it recommended that I wait to get into a community college and complete the ASN, then go back to school for my BSN...which may take YEARS? THERE IS A 1-3 YEAR WAITLIST AT MOST OF THE CCS, PLUS THE PROGRAM IS 2 YEARS....THE ADN ROUTE COULD TAKE 4-5 YRS EASILY

Hi! I am also new to this site, but have found myself in a similar situation as you. I am looking for the best way to get either my RN or ABSN. I already have BS and MS. I am looking for programs down in san diego. (Ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner). What did you come up with? I can't seem to find an ABSN at Azusa. Just the MLEP. Thanks!

I have the same question that Momat had. I couldn't find the ABSN program from Azusa Pacific U, may I know which campus you got the information from? I am in Orange County, I found out I have two around my area only, one is called Corcondia University in Irvine and the other one is Mt. St. Mary College in downtown LA. I am also very new to this site. I had a BS in Finance. Now I would like to change my career completely. I have decided to take some prerequisite courses in the local CC first then apply for the ABSN.

I searched for the ABSN program that takes only from 12-18 months to be completed. That's why it is called Accelerated, it wouldn't be taking for 3 years that long. :o

In the process of getting the MLEP at Azusa you receive a BSN after the first 2 years and can then decide to just keep going or start working first and finish the Masters later. I'm not applying there but have researched it.
