About orientation programs for new RNs

I am a senior nursing student and have been assigned to do a project on "Orientation programs-what should the new graduating nurse expect from it If anyone has information as to what your hospital's orientation program is like for RNs, please, please let me know. The more the merrier, because I want to use comparisons and see what they all have in common. This is very important to me and I thank you:)

When I graduated in 1999 I hired out at Flagstaff Medical Center in Flagstaff AZ. They hired specificately new grads twice per year (Dec and June). They offered an awesome new grad orientation. Two weeks in classroom letting you practice those IV's and ask questions. This time also allowed for all your education requirements to be taken care of, thus allowing us to level to a level 2 (pay raise) after the 3 month wait period.

After this you spent 3-4weeks with your preceptor 1:1 on the floor. You were required to sign a 1 year contract, but that is not bad.

Good Luck!

Andy
