About to interview for a APHN-BC program. TIPS?

Hello all!

I am an aspiring PHN in WA and I am so thrilled/nervous to have an interview for a Entry Level Masters Program at Seattle University this coming Saturday. This program is for applicants with a non-nursing Bachelor Degree (mine was a double major in Neurobiology and Psychology) to first become an RN (after 1 1/2 years), and then finish up a Masters in a specialty area the following year and a half. The track I am applying to is focused on Community and Public Health Nursing with an emphasis on leadership, and I would be graduating with a MSN and could sit for APHN-BC licensure at the end of the program.

I REALLY want to get into this program and I have been researching PHN positions and career paths, but I am still scared of going into this interview sounding like I do not really grasp what a PHN nurse does because there seems to be so much variety!

My background is in research and, ideally, I would LOVE to be a Research Nurse, involved in studies that target infection control, prevention, and a more efficient and effective transition of evidence-based practices from the bench side (research world) to the bedside, especially for under-served populations. Does this seem like a realistic goal?

So, I would love to get a little background/info on where all you PHN currently work, what projects you work on etc. and any tips/info/suggestions you all have for my interview!

Thanks in advance! I cannot wait to join the PHN world!
