About ASU nursing critical tracking courses

I have a question about getting into ASU nursing. In critical tracking courses GPA, does it mean I must take every course listed in there for the full 56 credits (17 courses), before I can be considered for nursing. Also, does it use the GPA from every single course, or can I pick and choose which courses to come to the best GPA possible.

Also, does anyone know the mathematical formula to arrive at the 6 point scale? More info below.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

3. How is advancement to the Upper Division Nursing program determined? Students who meet or exceed the critical tracking requirements will be ranked on a 6-point scale as follows: up to 4 points for the GPA in critical tracking courses and up to 2 points for the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Beginning with the top ranked, students are placed in available Upper Division Nursing courses until all spots are filled.

Yes, you have to take all 17 courses before you can apply for the upper nursing division. You get to pick 13 of the courses for your GPA though. You have to choose your English, math, and a couple science classes but other then that you choose which courses you want for your GPA. I don't know any formula for the scale system. You just take your select GPA and add it to your test score. So if you have a 3.9 GPA and got a 1.7 on the test you have a 5.6 as a score.

I just wanted to add on to what wattle bird said...you dont have to have all 17 pre-reqs done before you apply, but you'll have to have finished them all before you would begin nursing school. For example, if you have 15 of the 17 done by summer 2011 you can apply for spring 2012, but you must have finished the remaining two pre-reqs during fall 2011 before spring 2012 starts. And you do chose your select GPA of 13 out of those 17 classes, however both ENG 101 and 102, and 3 of the 4 sciences have to be included in that select GPA. (so you'd chose 3 out of BIO 201, 202, chem 101, and micro).

Thanks for the responses guys! Really appreciate it. Another question I had was, does math HAVE to be calculated into the select GPA? Wattlebird said it does but Tarabara did not mention it. Let me know thanks!

No you don't have to use a math. Just like WattleBird said, it just has to be 3 of the 4 science courses and your English courses. Other than those, you just use whatever you have A's in, until you have 13 finished. You should call down to the Student Services office and talk to an advisor. They also do workshops for students looking to start the program. They give you tons of information. Actually I think its required to do the workshop before enrolling.
