I would like to know whether we can withhold Warfarin or Xarelto at the time of any bleeding without the G.P's order?

What do you think your first response should be to an episode of new bleeding?

I know that we have to report it to the doctor first. But at times it takes time to get a doctor . By the time , can we withhold the anticoagulant ?

Bleeding from.....what? What is your facilities policy on this?

Yes if you feel the patient's safety and health would be compromised by the administration of the med you hold it and pester the MD until they call you. For habitual MD's that are slow to respond your facility should have a pecking order on how to circumvent the MD. I usually page them like 3 times in a row...they get annoyed but they call me back.
