Abdominal prep techniques

Hi all,

This web site looks like it's going to be a great resource. So.......... here's my first question. Is there something out there that's teaches how to correctly do an abdominal prep for surgery? I work in L&D so we only do the abdomen and we use Duraprep. The info I got from the rep showed how to prep everything except the abd.

This problem seems to resurface every 4-5 years. Some people use the horseshoe technique other use the inner to outer technique. I get approx. 6 -8 new grads per year. I would like to incorporate it into their orientation.:monkeydance:

Does your facility not have a P&P for this? Our hospital had detailed P&P orders for each type of procedure, including what to use, and how to use it, complete with diagrams. The diagrams were different depending on which part of the body was to be addressed, surgically.

The Duraprep people have a diagram, but good luck trying to figure it out! I have been taught several ways. The Duraprep diagram does back and forth up, down, each side with legs and then pubi back and forth down last. Lots of steps. I do back and forth and include the sides. If the woman weighs more than 250#, they want you to use two preps.
