Aasu nursing program question!!

Published

ANYONE!!

I am applying to the Nursing Program at AASU for Fall 2011. I'm am currently attending classes right now, in the Spring 2011 semester. I am taking MicroBio and STATS, which are needed on the actual application. But I was wondering if I may still be accepted even though those classes are still in progress? I am in good standing academically, and am on the Dean's List at AASU. Can I still be accepted?? Or will they reject me for this??

This makes me so nervous! I just completed the TEAS with flying colors, and now anxiety takes over AGAIN!

HELP!

Thanks,

Jennifer

This really has nothing to do with your question. but I'm at a community college in Albany and just decided I wnted to AASU. I was going to try and cram everything, but I would have all pre-reqs done by the time fall comes but I dont think they look at that, So I'm just going to settle for spring 2012 :crying2:. Have you heard anything about the program like how hard it is, how many students apply, and how many students actually get in?? And if you get in would you please keep me posted I would love to know. And also how many pre0reqs do you have left? I have 6 left but 3 of them will be done in may.

Sure! I only have 3 pre-reqs left, which I will be done with in May. But only 2 are being asked for on the application. You can take a look at the application @ armstrong.edu under the Department of Nursing. It's on the left hand side....application for BSN 2011.

I heard the AASU program is harder than other school programs, like GA South. But it prepares you so much better for the nursing field!

I'm not quite sure how many students apply each year, but I think only about 65 get accepted each year.

Hey guys!

I am currently in my first semester of nursing school at Armstrong and I was in progress with Micro when I applied. If you are accepted, you just have to show proof that you made a C in that class. If you are already at Armstrong, drop by the nursing office in Ashmore Hall and talk to Mrs. Brownlee...she won't bite, I promise.

I have to say that the program is, indeed, rigorous. I am usually a straight A student, and B has become the new A for many of us! I've heard that there are about a little less than 300 applicants for the program for Fall and 80 will get accepted...if you do the math, thats about 1 in 4 that get accepted.

Good luck!

What was yalls score on the teas and your g.p.a? do you have any advice on studying for the teas or any advice point blank.I'm so scared that I might not get in, because I dont see myself as great competition compared to other people. By the time spring comes I would only have my physial ed left. Currently I'm at a community college so math wasnt required. Any advice on math and statistics would help also because I'm very weak in math. I was also planning on applying to ga southern also just to keep my options open. Thanks alot

Hey there!

Right now as it stands there is not a "minimum score" for the TEAS...they recommend a 75. I used the ATI study guide and ended up getting an 88 on the TEAS. It worked for me.

They don't really use the regular GPA. They calculate a "nursing GPA" where they give you points based on your grades in Areas A, D and F. If you look at the BSN Program of Study on the Department of Nursing website, you will see that Area A is english and math, Area D is your core science classes and stat, and Area F is A&P I and II, Developmental Psych, Psych, and Micro. In each of these classes, you are awarded 1 point for an A, 0.5 point for a B and 0.25 point for a C. They add those numbers to your regular GPA and then you get the "nursing GPA." I believe the benchmark is set at around 9 or 10. If you need an example of how this is done, let me know.

You said you didn't believe you were great competition, but DO NOT sell yourself short. I say go for it and you may be surprised! My advice for math is go to tutoring if it is available to you. I have had a lengthy college career because I changed my major a few times and managed to get another degree in the meantime, but I can't tell you how many times people did not take advantage of every resource available to them and suffered because of it. Check out what your school has to offer in terms of extra help. You have to go the extra mile if you want to get into nursing because once you get into the nursing program, you will need to take advantage of everything that will help you succeed and get to the final destination.

Hope that helps!

Ok thanks. That was very helpful. I'm originally from Savannah and when someone speaks about armstrong they say how tough the school is and the nursing program is even harder especially trying to get into. So when you started did you have ll your pre-reqs completed? if not how did that pan out for you. I will b done with all if i pass, by spring except for two of the phed classes. Im just so scared because im a b student and on the hesi i only mde 74% because my weak point was a&p i could only imagine was the teas is like

Hello, I am trying to apply for the nursing program in the fall. I have a Bachelors in Business Admin. I was wondering if I needed to take any other classes before I applied. Im not sure how the nursing thing goes. Everywhere that Im looking is not giving me information on the steps that I need to take... Can someone please help me!!! Thanks =)

If you log onto the Armstrong Nursing website and go under the Admissions section and click on BS Nursing, it will tell you the requirements for getting into the program. There is also the sheet they use for checking off your courses, which is the second link. You can also just call the nursing department and ask to speak to Rita Brownlee...her number is 912-344-2575. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much!! I did not know where to start at all.

Just got accepted for Fall of 2011 and for anybody who is looking to take the TEAS in the future and is nervous about it DEFINITELY get the ATI study guide! the questions in it are very representative of the questions on the actual test. I went through all the sections, did every last question in the book and made a 93, I'm terrible at math and because of the info and tips they gave in the book, that was actually my highest scoring section! If I hadn't gotten the book, I maybe would have been able to correctly answer about 40% of the math questions bc you cant use a calculator-its all fractions, percentages, ratios, word problems, and long division that I just would not have remembered if I hadn't gotten the study guide! I found it on Amazon considerably cheaper than on the ATI website!

Has anybody else gotten in for Fall 2011? I'm moving from Athens, Ga, in August, (assuming I don't get into Kennesaw St.'s program) and I have no idea about where I should plan on living! Tips would be greatly appreciated!

Does AASU except Teas version 5?
