AAS TO BSN

Nurses Career Support

Published

I'm currently enrolled in a 2-year AAS program, I'll be done in May 2018 and be able to take my boards soon after.

My school hasn't given us any information on when exactly to apply for a BSN completion program. I like to know things in advance, and be able to plan things accordingly. Any advice would be great! Thank you in advance!

I think it depends. In my case, I wanted to wait a year for two reasons. 1.) Learning a new job and starting school was giving me anxiety and I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing at work before adding on the stress of classes. 2.) After a year of full time employment, my hospital has a reimbursement program to go back to school. I started classes for my BSN shortly after my year mark.

For me that was the best way. For some of my classmates, they took on school in September right after starting their new careers as a nurse over the summer. This way worked for them.

I think you need to know what works for you. Do you want to take on this new career and school at the same time? There are pros and cons to both, and I think it really comes down to what is best for you.

Good luck, hope this helps!
