I recently took the AANP, and failed. I feel like the test was written in another language and was not at all what I had prepared for. I'm wondering if anyone else took the test and has felt the same or taken it for a second time and passed.... Any advice? I'm feeling discouraged and not sure what to do next. I have a date already set up for my next attempt but not feeling very confident.

Hi Alta75, I took the ANCC exams last March and I felt the same way as you are, as if it was an out of nowhere language, I failed too, I am planning to take the AANP this May, was the JNC 8 for HTN and Lipid management already on the exams. Please let me know. Thank you.

I took AANP at beginning of January and failed but did like you signed up to retake as quick as I could. It feels terrible but if you go through the material for understanding, you'll pass just try to stay calm. Maybe use a quiz partner and flash cards on Quizlet.
Hi Lyn73,
I retook the test and passed!! The second time around was much easier and the language seemed a lot more straight forward. I didn't have too much about HTN but I did get a few questions on Lipid management. I also got a few of the same questions from the first test so make sure you try to review any material you remember being on the first test.
Also I went online and took a course from the National Healthcare Institute and I think that really helped. The questions they had were similar to ones I saw on the AANP. Their review also made things a lot clearer and easier to understand. If you have any other questions feel free to send me a message.

Congratulations Alta75!
I also took the AANP about 2 weeks ago for the first time and did not pass. Needed 500 and got 486!!! Arrrrrggggghhhh!!! Honestly, it felt like an exam with one level above what I was prepared for. I had to guess many questions. Some questions seemed to have multiple correct answers. I have a baby so I am unable to study for long periods every day. I studied 2 months, 3 days a week a few hours at a time. That was the best I could do given my circumstances. Went through Barkely review CDs twice, did the Fitzgerald CDs, and took both of their practice tests as well as the AANP mock exam. I passed most of them although in the 70's.
Alta75, how long did you wait to retake the AANP? I thought that you had to wait 3 months before retaking. I signed up for AANC since it seems they let you take the test quicker than having to wait and do the 15CEs for AANP.
Also, has anyone heard of people appealing the test result?? Is it worth it or a waste of time? On what basis can you appeal?
