Hey all. Anyone else see this report?

I'm just amazed by how high all these salaries are! I'm starting a PMHNP-MSN program in September and wonder if the psych NP average of around ~125k listed in this survey could really be true. I mean, I know I wouldn't expect to make that much as a new grad with no experience, but these salaries all seem so high! I didn't initially choose this field thinking the salaries would be that high. It's very exciting but I also don't want to get my expectations too high.

So the problem I have with these types of surveys is the variation can be huge by region and also by what someone is willing to accept. Within the area of 90 minutes surrounding Baltimore/DC I know psych NPs making from $100,000 to $190,000 and that is not dependent on their experience. It varies more based on the setting and what the person negotiated. Your best bet is to find out what NPs are making in your area.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I can tell you that PMHNP's at my jobs make between 80,000-100,000. I am in the Midwest.

The survey is misleading due to regional variation in salary and in the number of people who responded top the survey.

The west coast and New England regions throw off the results. When the stats come out they really need to do them by state. Even a general practice physician only makes around $160k here.
