As some of you may know I applied to take the ANCC (preference) and the AANP. Well, I PASSED the AANP on 4/25/2016. I was scheduled to take the ANCC this week as well but I have decided to postpone the exam. I am overjoyed right now and just want to relax. I must say that the AANP was challenging! However, I was well prepared!

So here are my suggestions:

If you are still completing your practicum PAY ATTENTION! I answered quite a few questions ON THE AANP cert exam based on what I diagnosed and or treated during my practicum rotation.

I suggest studying for at least 3-6 months prior to whatever exam you choose to take. I state this because in the end you won't have to cram. The first three months, I was all over the place. I clearly did not have a structured study plan.

I finished the FNP program on March 9, 2016 and applied for both exams that day. Shortly after, I completed an ANCC review that was included in my program – The presenter held a DNP-FNP –BC, NP-C. The presenter had actually written certification questions for the ANCC and AANP. Although I had been studying for several months, this review gave me a blue print.

A week before the cert exams, I completed the MUST TAKE online webinar with Maria Leik. This was a live webinar review course! I was able to stay in my pajamas with my homemade coffee during this four-day review. Maria does an EXCELLENT job with covering Health promotion, the systems, OB, PEDS, and a separate session for the non-clinical topics. In addition, Maria answers questions daily at the end of each review class. Students who had previously taken the exams and failed posed several questions. I was able to gather additional information by listening to the other student's concerns and or questions.

Study Tools:

Leik 4th edition – READ the entire book and complete all the questions in the back of the book. Pay very close attention to the exam tips. In addition, purchase the FNP Q&A app- complete all the questions.

ANCC 4th edition review books Volumes I and II – Complete all questions

ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner Review Course Workbook and slides- provided by the ANCC review course.

AANP practice exam from the AANP website- I actually saw 1 question on my exam from the practice exam. I guess someone forgot to retire that one (smile). Scored an 86 %. two days before I tested.

ANCC practice exams on the ANA website. There is also a new Family Nurse Practitioner IQ” module for purchase on the ANA-Knowledge Center site. The module has questions specific to the domains one is required to pass on the actual exam.

Complete the free questions on the ANCC website that pertain to Geriatrics, Adult, and FNP.

Exam edge- 10 ANCC exams and 2 AANP exams- complete all the exams

APEA predictor examines – Believe it or not, I scored a 65 % on this particular exam the day before I took the AANP. The questions were not so similar to the exam.

Barkley DRT- Questions were similar to the exam- I scored an 89 % the day before the exam.

I will likely sit for the ANCC in a few weeks. Just enjoying the moment right now! The AANP has already issued my wallet card! My state actually accepts the wallet card for licensing! My application is in the mail!

Good Luck AND BLESSINGS!!
