Hey guys!
Just wanted to write a quick post about how I was able to pass the AANP exam Dec 2017 (while co-corrently graduating *inserts prayer hands) the first time and the steps I took. I hope this helps some one and alleviates the HUGE amount of stress that comes with taking any board exams.
1. TIME: I am an overly anxious person. (haha..my friends will be proud of my admittance) With that being said I made it a point to begin studying for the AANP exam extra EARLY. Overall I spent about 3.5 months studying for the exams. (Some people may say that excessive, but when it comes to anxiety, excessiveness can borderline be synonymous..i kid, i kid). With that being said each day that I could, I spent a minimum of 2-7 hours studying. I was also in my last semester and graduating in the same month I wanted to take my exam, which is probably why I chose 3.5 months (I still had papers and clinicals to do co-currently). *If you have alot more free time you can def do 1-2 months.*
2. MATERIAL: I used LEIK
3. LOGISTICS: This part was tricky for me. I would advice anyone who is taking any board certification exam use the same/similar technique you did to pass your prior exams, but x10. So, for me this meant. I needed to derive a set schedule and break things down by time/by system/by remediation. I virtually read leik cover to cover starting on page one and reading about the test... to the 650th practice question (i didn't read legal, professional, or cultural considerations the AANP is not heavy on that at ALL).
4: MY STUDY ROUTINE: I would read Leik Heent section over 1-2 days/backdoor read Fitz section on 1-2 days/ then do Joann Heent practice questions to apply my knowledge. Then I would repeat this technique for each system until I got through all of them every single week! Then on the weekend or whatever day where you are studying the "lightest" I'd review the disorders or systems I felt like I did not fully understand for remediation. Then every 2-3 weeks I would take a, "practice test." All this meant to me was taking 150 questions board exam style with my cellphone timer set for 3 hours, no distractions and just water and a restroom break. I did this to test my mastery and how efficiently I answer questions. (Remember the test is timed so you need to move to the next question!) This was very helpful seeing as though when I took my actual board exams I finished all 175 questions with about 32 mins left to spare, (which I used praying and reviewing my marked questions lol). I would recommend anyone to take atlas 2-3 practice exams if you can before your exam TRUST ME YOU NEED TO TEST YOUR SELF BOARD EXAM STYLE.
5. Lastly, I prayed, prayed and tried my best to relax with my friends and have some enjoyment on the side! Don't forget that your brain, body, and spirit needs to relaxxxxxx.
Hope this helps someone, just wanted to share my experience. God bless on your exam DEEP BREATH, YOU GOT THIS!!
