AANP Cert Exam Dec 2015 Advice

Happy December all,

I am planning to take the Family AANP next week and am wondering if anyone has any tips. So far I:

-prior to studying, took the APEA predictor test in 09/2015 and scored 61%

-then started studying last week by reading Leik (front to back) scoring 74%-76% with the questions in the back. i'm answering them 150 at a time and have about 300 qs left to answer. prior to reading each Leik chapter, i read the APEA notes for each corresponding Leik chapter (ex. before reading Leik Endocrinology, i read APEA notes on endo), this helped me absorb the material better.

-today i took the APEA predictor test and scored 77%.

-consistently scoring 40-70% with the "FNP" free version app.

I am planning on purchasing the exam edge 10-test bundle and the AANP practice test on the official website.

Do you have any advice? tips? suggestions? Will the test be more difficult in 01/2016 so I should not push back my test date by a week?

Thank you!

Don't waste your money on Exam Edge. The questions are NOT specifically geared toward the actual exam regardless of which one you take.

I have not taken my cert exam yet but plan to in January 2016. I am going to take ANCC instead of the AANP. I am studying the Leik book which I think is easy to follow and I have scored about 85% on the questions in the back of the book by taking 100 at a time. I also took the APEA predictor test, can't remember exact score but it was in the 70's which the test says I would predictably pass my cert exam. I also ordered the ten pack of exam edge questions. I have only done four tests so far and have passed all of them but found them to have a lot of theory and non clinical questions. I don't know how many questions on ANCC are theory but I feel this is my weak area so they might be helpful for that. I'll let you all know if exam edge was helpful after take my cert test. [emoji4]

Thank you and I wish you luck on your exam. You sound ready to take the exam.

I also registered for ANCC and will take that afterwards because some jobs specifically request ANCC certification.

Please keep me updated. I will update whether I pass or not pass :)

Thank you IhflanurseNP. I was looking to do an extra 1,000 AANP exam related questions before the test this week. ExamEdge is now off my list and on with the search for some more.

ANCC doesn't really ask anything about nursing theory. The question are mostly clinical, and the non-clinical questions are more about ethics and culture care.

Happy Last Week of 2015,

I PASSED the Family AANP exam yesterday afternoon (12/26/15)!!!! I nervously answered 150qs with no break. I marked that I was sure about 1/3rd of the answers on the board. Took a five minute break and used the last 30 mins of exam to review the whole test. I changed most of my answers because in my nervousness I misunderstood what I read. By the time I submitted the test I felt I had at least 70% correct but I was still bracing myself for the worst.

I'm glad I read Leik front to back and did her questions, read APEA organ system chapter notes, APEA and the AANP (on AANP $50 75-questions practice exam i scored 79% two nights before my exam)predictor tests, and the free Cram and free trial of the FNP apps.

I studied for a little less than two weeks (one week to read Leik and APEA and four days for practice tests while working and caring for my lovely mother. I 'walked' in may 2015 and graduated in Sept 2015 (I had to make up one semester of clinical). I forgot many things and learned so much me while studying. I wish you all the best! This website has been so helpful for me, i hope this post helps.

email me if you have any questions.

I would've posted sooner but my boyfriend proposed shortly after our exam celebratory dinner so i was a little busy.

Double yay!

Congratulations "double"

Congratulation on passing your boards and getting engaged. Can you please let me know what is your email or shoot me an email as I am needing your feedback.

Hi all nurses! I just passed my ANCC FNP exam! I promised to let you know what helped me the most from what I studied and I have to say the Exam Edge practice tests were most helpful and most like the real test. The Leik book was slightly helpful with the test, but I think it is very helpful with general knowledge for practice. Thanks for all the support from everyone throughout this process. Good luck to everyone else testing soon!
