This is for CRNAs only....Are any of you NOT members of the AANA? if not, why not? Please do not go on and on about how it is my prefessional organization protecting my scope of practice etc etc etc. I am asking those who are NOT members why they chose to opt out. Are any of you angry enough about the AANAs inaction and abandonment of its members RE the MBCRNAs program for recertification? Maybe it's refusal to admit overproduction is a problem and it's unwillingness to address the problem? Cost of membership vs benefits received?
I know I am NOT the only non AANA member. According to the annual survey, about 5% of us are not members.
Thanks

I've come very close a couple of times to NOT renew my membership. I'm still very dissatisfied with the AANA.
Other than the CTAS service... of which i do not use...there seems to be no reason to be a member, The AANA and it's toadies control the prefession.;. I think it is time to use some economic pressure to show them they cannot act with disregard to membership. Sadly almost all forums have quaiffed deeply of the koolaid and kneel before the altar of the AANA and require membership to post. It is an easy way to exclude dissent, allowing only AANA sycophanrts to post..

The NBCRNA is not part of the AANA, and when the AANA members did not like the proposal by the NBCRNA the AANA advocated strongly against. The proposal for recertification by the NBCRNA was changed and delayed d/t in no small part by the AANA. The AANA has been consistently sending updates to its members on the ongoing NBCRNA negotiations.
The COA controls admission standards, and again is not part of the AANA. The COA just increased accrediting/graduation standards significantly including increased case numbers, and all NA schools are eventually going to have to move to 36 month minimum program length.
The cost of membership is around 700 a year, and the average CRNA makes 170K/yr. The cost is minimal compared to that. The ASA PAC is the best funded medical speciality group there is. The only thing we do by not being AANA is reduce the amount of money available for the AANA to fight legal/political battles for CRNAs.
The ASA stated goal is to have AAs in every state, and they are well funded enough to do it. We are predicted to have an anesthesia provider shortage over the next couple of decades, so it doesn't even make sense to limit the number NA students even if there was a temporary overabundance which there is not.
Yes I did. Typing on a Galaxy has certain disadvantages when proof reading.
I was a member of the AANA for 15 years before I quit about 7 years ago and,I am aware of the realtionships between the three entities, AANA, COA and MBCRNA. I understand they are, in theory, seperate and independent organizations. Well, other than the money the MBCRNA gets form the AANA, unless that has changed.
I am glad you are proud of you professional organization and are happy with the services provided. My question was directed at those CRNAs who are not members. I was looking for reasons why they are not.
It is actually NBCRNA not MBCRNA. Home
AHHH NBCRNA... that makes all the difference in the world...I wil now rejoin the AANA.... Come on, I am sure there are syntactical errors you can also point out.
What are you unhappy with in regrards to the AANA?
You really think ill put anything here? This is your first post and you sure seem interest in stirring this pot.
I'll pass
You should at least be accurate if you are going make disparaging remarks about the AANA, NBCRNA, and the COA.
