Hi there,
I know that this may come up frequently, but I have a more specific question regarding study materials for the Pediatric CCRN exam. I already have the Core Curriculum book, as well as a book of practice tests. I *really* wanted to attend a live review but for the peds test, these seem pretty hard to find! So I guess I'll settle with self-study.
The AACN offers 3 formats of the same content by Kathryn Roberts... online, CD-ROM, and MP3. I just want to know what visual materials accompany the online/CD-ROM versions, and if it's worth the extra $65 to get the visual material. I tried writing to the AACN education people but all they did was copy and paste what shows up in the bookstore...
Has anyone used these materials? What advice can you give me? Also, in a thread from last year, someone mentioned a practice test written by M*** A*******. I couldn't find that anywhere!
Thanks for your help!

I used the online Roberts webinar. 13.5 CEUs, printable study guide and (most helpful to me) rationale for the practice questions. I passed on the first attempt. I do a 'boot camp' for my co-workers using this material and everyone who has taken the exam after using it has also passed first try.
For me- having the visuals was helpful. There are diagrams and charts that are quite helpful.

The practice exam created by M.A. at Dell was for a study group. I was provided with a copy by one of his former coworkers. There's nothing to say you couldn't have a coworker make up a test for you.
Any idea if the CDROM is any different from the streamed online webcast? It's significantly cheaper (if you're not an AACN member and want the CEU credits). Obviously with the CDROM you can't access it from any computer unless you bring the disc, but that's not a big problem for me.
I'm not sure if many of my coworkers have taken the peds CCRN (nor would they have the energy to write a practice exam, with our high census all winter)! I came up empty when posting to the group website asking for study tips or study material advice. The clinical educator suggested the Core Curriculum book, but it's a tough book to break down to study for an exam.

Did you take your pedi CCRN? I passed over a week ago and thought I would share what I used for those that are currently preparing for the exam. I started with the Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care Certification Review by Gaedeke. I bought this book for $18 off of Amazon. It has a lot of questions and rationales. This book is so OLD but it helped and it was recommended by another nurse who also passed her exam over the summer. It is a very good book! After I would review a topic in that book first, I would then move on to the AACN Pediatric CCRN online review by Kathryn Roberts. There were six lectures that were 2 hours long. I listened to the lectures twice. My last review source that I used was the Nurse Builders Pediatric CCRN Review book. Yes folks, I used 3 different sources because I wanted to take this once and study for it once. I hope this will help any of you thinking about taking this exam!!!
