Two questions for current NP's-

I am curious how much flexibility is offered for a NP. Once I graduate, will I only find full-time positions? I currently work part-time and would like to continue this for several years as I have young children. Do you think it will be a possiblity once I finish.

And I am little worried about the job market once I finish and start job hunting. When I do a quick search for current NP positions in my state, most say "experienced NP". I am experienced as an RN but not NP. Where will I start?

Thanks for your help!

Depends on your local job market.

Where will I start?

You're just going to have to search your local job market when you finish and see if you can get in somewhere.

I agree, it depends on the market at the time you are looking.

I currently work full-time, but since I work 12-hour shifts I actually find myself with a lot of time off. I'd like to find some part-time or PRN work to fill my days off, but that has not materialized yet. There are full-time jobs in my area right now, but nothing part-time except in laser hair-removal clinics which does not interest me.

Like other posters mentioned, it does depend on your job market, but I'd add also on your own willingness to do certain work. I've seen plenty of retail quick care clinics that offer PT or even per diem jobs. I've also had plenty of offers for locum type short term 1-3 shifts/week family practice jobs. Those may not be ideal, but they are options.
