Ok everyone I have a question for Rhode Island College nursing students (I'd prefer someone who is already in the program but anyone who knows can answer this.) So I've heard that at some schools students have to undress when they are learning bed baths and physical exams and practice on classmates. I'm not sure if its just me but honestly I don't need to be stripping in front of my classmates (I'd rather spare my classmates that sight) and I was just wondering if anyone knows that RIC does when students need to learn physical exams and bed baths and stuff.

Chris-
I actually appreciate you asking this, because I know this scares people! BUT relax, it's not true! When we get to our assessments, etc, students are NOT allowed to undress. When practicing these things, all students will be clothed, even during a partial bed bath.
Also, students do not practice things like blood draws or IV starts on other fellow students.
So...don't worry.....we'll all be fully clothed and happy

Wow thats a relief. Hey just wondering but how did you find this out? I am just curious if another student in the program told you or if you asked a professor.
I know quite a few nurses, and I also know people in our program who have said this. I'm not sure of any nursing school that forces students to be in their birthday suit, but hey you never know!
There are schools that make their students strip down to bras and underwear (boxers for guys) to do physicals and bed baths and stuff. There are students who have posted it on here and a friend from URI says that girls have to wear sports bras and shorts (again boxers for guys) when they are learning to do their physical assessments. I mean you team up with a partner and do it, but still I really don't want to strip down to my boxers in front of my classmates. I am all set with that thanks.
Haha, yeah I would not be too happy about that. But I'm 99% sure RIC doesn't do it. I know a bunch of people who were in Health Assessment last sem and they said they were clothed.

Hi
I graduated from RIC about 1 1/2 yrs ago. At that time, we did not have to strip down in our health assessment class. We were allowed to pick who we were going to have as partners for physical assessment as well so if you are more comfortable with someone, that helped. If I recall, some people wore shorts and some girls chose to wear a sports bra but it was not necessary.
Our instructor (Professor Servello) was really great, and I learned a ton in that class. I think you will enjoy it.

Thanks, that really helps out a lot. My friend Kim is going to have that professor and has heard some really great things. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, Athena. Did you have luck finding the job you wanted as a new grad?? I really am hoping to get into ICU after graduation and am wondering if you have any advice or suggestions for getting into that area.
