Hello everyone! Just registered here, my classmate introduce me to this great nurse's site. I have a question to ask...My sister is a US citizen and graduated from a BSN program in the Philippines. Thus, she have to take the Philippine Board Exam for Nursing or just only take the US Nursing Board Exam? Hope to hear some helpful information. Thanks! :coollook:

It depends on where she wants to work. There are some nurses from overseas that do not pass boards here. Ibeleive they are required to take our exams even if they passed one in their own country.

Good luck to your sister!

She can take only the NCLEX exam. There is no requirement that she have a license to practice first in the Philippines. Unless she wishes to work in Illinois or Michigan, then she will need to take CGFNS exam also.

She will need to apply to a Board of Nursing for licensure and wait for acceptance of her credentials by them. Then she pays the $200 fee to Pearson-Vue (http://www.pearsonvue.com) and once they receive confirmation that she is a candidate for the exam, they will send her the ATT which gives her permission to write the exam. She will only have 90 days to take the exam, once the ATT is issued.
