Published

Heya!

I recently got accepted to RN school in Southern Texas and I am a guy, so I'll be joining the ranks of ladies and guys in the nursing world in under two years.

I found this article kinda helpful, but there still seems to be a chronic shortage of male RN scholarships, suggestions?

A Man's Guide to Get a Nursing Scholarship in a Woman's Profession

Typically, when individuals decide to attend college and choose nursing as their major, they are most likely a white woman and are between 18 to 45 years of age. However, while many men will oftentimes dismiss a career in nursing because it is, stereotypically, "a woman's profession," men should not be so quick to dismiss a nursing career due to a chronic male nursing shortage and a variety of perks, such as a high income, etc.

It linked to some other good sites I'll bookmark for nursing info, but I didn't see anything about scholarships. I think I found 2 to apply for through fastweb, haven't heard anything yet. My financial aid office has 6 just for my college, but they're all for 2nd year nursing students. I guess I'll be maxing out the ol' student loan.

Scholarships are out there. You just have to keep searching. I just got one through my school that pays for my last 3 semesters. :monkeydance:

All I have to do is maintain a B average.

Yea I applied for about 6-7 scholarships in my Nursing program and all they gave me was a service cancelable loan. Oh and I have a 4.0. does this seem weird to anyone else?

I am sorry that as males your respurces are limited in applying for scholarships. Here in New Hampshire, there are several scholarships for students going into non-traditional roles which is applicable to women in engineering, men in nursing and both can apply. Some are just for men in nursing.

I have ordered a book about scholarships in nursing school and should come any day- when I receive it will look and see if there is any for men in there. this is a publication that used to be published by the NLN but has not been in print for a few years.

I posted some scholarship links here https://allnurses.com/forums/f161/some-scholarship-links-238123.html

Hi, I am an international male nursing student in a community college in Los Angeles CA. Our school and some local hospitals provide scholarships for students. However, most are only for U.S citizens and PRs and many remain unclaimed. So you should have many options. In my case, I was successfully awarded the nursing scholarships two years in a roll. Typically, most scholarships requires you to show your financial need apart from your academic excellence and extra curriculum involvement. Good luck to you.
