Hey there,

So what job did you end up going into after graduating nursing school? Did you go straight into psych?

Sincerely,

Someone who isn't sure where to start.

I am a new grad and am starting to apply to jobs as we speak, I am interested in psych (wasn't around any classmates that were) and was curious if it feels rewarding. This is the exact post I needed to see to reassure myself that this is the right decision for me, even if it isn't what everyone else is doing. Thank you for an awesome post.

this was a wonderful well thought out article. i was hired for a psych inpatient position and i am scared both for being a new nurse and safety.

That makes more sense, and thanks for clarifying. At least I hope that is what the author meant. It is definitely an ambiguous statement. Before reading the replies I thought it meant "they wouldn't make good nurses" at any nursing position.

what a wonderful article! i am currently in orientation as a RN for a psychiatric hospital and i am afraid of patient violence more than anything but i'll do my best

This article 100% resonates with me! I'm not sure if the author is still around, but thank you so much for this. I don't have much desire to do bedside, but the thought of making someone with psychological differences feel human while providing medical care is absolutely appealing to me.
