A little frustration with my alumni school Michigan State University

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone at all has heard back anything from Michigan State University in regards to the 2009 nurse anesthesia admissions. I'm a bit upset with them in regards to communication and feedback regarding my application. I've accepted the fact that I probably didn't get an interview there since they were held the week of June 23rd....... I also did not receive a letter stating that I didn't get an interview. Through multiple emails and phone calls I still have no feedback and I went there for my 1st undergraduate degree in physiology. Maybe this explains why they are a new program. anyone have any comments????

thanks

JC

I don't know about conditional/provisional status for a new program. If you look on the AANA list of accredited programs, it says that MSU is due for review in 5/2011, which would be when the 2nd class (yours!) graduates. I do know that the faculty is behind us 100%. You need to throw yourself into this with every thing you've got, but they'll make sure you get what you need. Their reputation, the university's and ours as grads, are at stake.

Gen X nurse, if you don't mind me asking did you retake all of your science classes. I have been out of school 5 years and have been thinking about taking some courses prior to applying. Did you think it helped?

Divine congrats to you... I hope the program excel.. I have spoken with the director in the past.. Good luck to you.. keep me posted on your likes and possibly dislikes of the program

I had been out of school for 13 years when I started to "refresh" my courses. Many schools require most of the sciences to be no more than 7 to 10 years old. So- because I hadn't taken chemistry in SOOOO long I started over with basic chemistry (Like highschool- No credit stuff) Then General Chemistry and Algebra- Then Organic Chemistry and Statistics. With those classes I was eligible for some programs: Akron, U of Pittsburgh, University of New England, Michigan State and some others. My plan was to apply to these programs and see what happened. If I didn't get in- my plan was to continue with classes to be eligible for other programs:

Depending on the program- I would have had to repeat:

Anatomy and Physiology

Microbiology

Possibly Pathphysiology and Pharmacology (Although if required to "refresh" these- I would have opted for Graduate level classes, as I have been told that this shows your ability to succeed at that level.

Did these classes help? I don't know. On some level I thought it was a real pain. On another level I found that I really liked relearning concepts that I had quite frankly forgotten.

Special 31- If I were in your shoes- I wouldn't retake undergrad classes. Go for the graduate classes and make yourself a super strong candidate. Expanding your knowledge base (in my opinion) is always a good thing.

Best Regards!
