A little encouragement please?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Can anyone offer any words of encouragement to someone who has been

fixed upon a career of Nursing every since they discovered it. I got interested in the profession about 5 months ago, and everything seemed so perfect... I wanted to do it for humanitarian reasons...Then everything seemed to fit into place.. A couple months later the news was SCREAMING nursing shortage, nurses were describing there specialties on tv & it seemed like fate was telling me to go for it... Until I found this site. :u

..somehow the rest of the post got deleted.. I cant delete the thread... so just disregard this.

What have you read/seen that has discouraged you? Nursing is really tough sometimes...in fact, I have only been a nurse for 6 months and I am still always learning new things at work and getting stressed out, but I just walk into work telling myself, "as long as I keep my patients alive," then anything else can come over time through asking others and using my resources. It truly is a profession of giving your time and energy to help others (sometimes 7 patients...depending on the floor you are on) to some of the most noncompliant, chronicly sick people that will never understand how to care for themselves (pretty much the floor I am on), but I am still driven to do my best and make my patients truly understand what is best for them.

I think I needed to write all that to encourage myself actually lol. I am not sure exactly what is discouraging you but maybe I can help if you elaborate. Speaking of nursing, I am off to work the weekend. It is only once every third weekend so I shouldn't complain :o)

God bless,

it all depends on what area of the country you are working in if there is a "nursing shortage" right now. here at the hospital that i work at, we are still hiring rns (nicu) and our sister hospital is even more desperate for nurses; so much that nurses from my hospital are floating to the other one to help out. my advice to you is this: if you really want to be a nurse, then go for it! the economy will eventually improve; nothing lasts forever, and hospitals all over will lift their hiring freezes and all will be well again. how long that will take, no one knows. but do what your heart tells you to do and do what you know down deep inside you will make you the happiest. don't ever listen to someone who tells you "don't do it" or "it can't be done", because anything is possible if you truly want it and do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. good luck in whatever you decide to do!
