A little discouraged....

Hey....I am a newbie here and have started researching with hopes of starting to travel this summer. I have talked to multipy companies trying to get a feel for things and what I have learned is that everyone tells you what they want you to hear, everyone wants you to fill out an application and they want you to apply for every state license. I know it is early to be looking at jobs but isn't this what we are suppose to be doing is researching companies before applying ? I have basically been told that being a first time traveler I can probally only get to CA or TX......neither place which is on my top 10 list. Really beginning to think that this is not going to be as easy as I had thought. I am an ER nurse with 6 plus yrs experience..with mulitply certifications, I am not asking to make a killing just enough so that I can see a little of the USA. I would love to go Montana or Wyoming or Colorado or even some of the neighboring states. I feel like a am being pretty flexible. Just a little discouraged and looking for some words of wisdom.

Thanks:confused:

Generally the more popular hospitals will require at least a year of travel expereince. Makes it more difficult to get started traveling but there are certainly positions out there which will accept first time travelers. Yes recruiters are going to ask you to fill out an application and start applying for a license somewhere else. But you don't have to do that to get a good recruiter to talk with you about what is available. Be honest with them that this is your first travel experince and you want some specific information before you sit down to fill out an on-line resume and do skills check-list. A good recruiter will listen to you and help you through the process. Good luck!:)

Sometimes a place may not seem like it is at the top of the list, but if you are flexible and have an open mind, you can make the most of it. My first travel job was no where on my list at all, but it has actually been ok and I have had the chance to see a lot of places I never would have seen. You are doing a good thing by talking to a lot of companies/recruiters. Most of the time, if it sounds too good to be true, then it is. Do as much research as possible. It is a good idea to get a license somewhere there usually is jobs...such as CA. Good luck!

Specializes in ICU/PACU.

Be flexible. Maybe start in CA and then move on. It's just a 12 week assignment..time flies. CA has jobs, it's beautiful here, and the pay is decent.
