A) Medicate for pain around the clock.
B) Restrict foods high in fiber.
C) Avoid the use of stool softeners.
D) Encourage fluid intake of 2,500-3,000 ml each day.
That is a good point. But comments like that don't bother me anymore. After graduating high school and now being in nursing school I have learned that being judgmental and worrying about what others think only hurts myself. If people have the time to go out of their way and call out people then they are obviously too bored with their life. Like we all learned in elementary school, "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." I am also new to the forum and learned from my mistakes. If I need help with somthing I need to put my thoughts and reasonings into my post and then whoever wishes can help guide me in the right direction. This is how we all learn though, from our mistakes.
A client with chronic pain from herniated intervertebral disks is experiencing constipation. What interventions would be appropriate for this client?(Sorry about that, I didn't realize it cut off)
Hi akruc353, as someone has mentioned, the interventions for constipation are:
1) Increase fluid intake
2) Increase fiber
3) Stool softener
4) Ambulation
There are two positive answers and two negatives: Providing pain and encouraging fluid. The negatives are taking away things that can help prevent or alleviate constipation. So with that, you need to think about if pain medications can help with constipation.
(Hint: They can cause constipation or make it even worse)
