A-BSNorMSN Does undergrad university matter?

Published

Do Accelerated BSN and MSN programs take into consideration where you went as an undergraduate? Or look highly/down upon them depending on where you went?

I know they don't say that directly, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything through the "grapevines" lol.

Traditional BSN or accelerated BSN is undergraduate (bachelors)

Reputation may or may not be considered in the school/program admissions decision. Entirely up to the criteria being used by said institution at any given time. Only way to find out is to ask a person from the institution who has this knowledge.

Specializes in Critical Care, Postpartum.

No, they just look at your GPA.

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.

As caliotter3 said, it depends on the particular school. I served on an admissions committee once where it did matter: it even mattered where you did your pre-req's for applicants to their entry-level BSN program.

There is no set "rule" on that. Go to the best schools that you can reasonably afford and do the best you can. That's really all you can do.

I am with llg and caliotter3 on this. Soch schools focus solely on the GPA and TEAS score. At others, it does matter where you went for the degree and prerequisites.

I am the Assistant Dean for Admissions/Financial Aid a nationally-known university. We note where the degrees are from as well as where the prerequisites were taken. So in our program, it does matter.

We admit students into the BSN program directly from high school, so we also look to see how many AP/IB classes a BSN applicant took (as well as how many of these classes were offered at the high school).
