A&P1 in six weeks?

Published

I am in my thirties, applied to nursing school and got accepted as "pre-clinical" (basically meaning they are saving a seat for me in the FALL program) but it's contingent on the fact that I take A&P1 and get an A or B in the class.

The only problem that I have is that I am RE-TAKING the class. Not because I didn't do well the first time... I did. I have to retake it because this is a second career for me, and it's been more than ten years since I took the course.

I am hearing a lot of feedback about how hard it is to take this course over the summer. I am a mother of 3 and have a ton of support. My mother in law will be cooking and cleaning for us (she is a godsend) and My Mother has offered to keep the kids anytime I need her to. I also have a VERY supportive husband, and I do not have to work. Has anyone taken A&P in the summer and had any success? I know it will be a lot of work, and lots of studying. Guess I am just looking for some feedback to help calm my nerves. Class starts next week.

Yes. I took A&P 1 in six weeks followed by A&P 2 the next six weeks. I was in high school and had no kids but plenty of people in the class did and it was equally tough for everyone but DOABLE. The key is to have a study schedule because you can count on an exam pretty much every week. Its always the topics that you overlook because they are hard to understand that end up being test questions. For example, ATP, ADP, or cyclic whatever it is. Didn't get it then and don't get it now. You can do it!

RN Sam... thanks for your feedback. My advisor seemed a bit hesitant when I registered for it, the nursing admin director also put pressure on me by saying "most students fail" if they take it in the summer. Really? If they fail... then why do they keep offering it as a 6 week course. Thanks for the feedback. I am planning to study ALOT. This helps to hear it is "Doable". Thanks again.

I took a 5-week A&P I class last summer and got an A. I don't have any children, but I do work full-time. It wasn't easy to work from 8-5 and then commute an hour in traffic to school for my 6-10 A&P class four days a week, but I just kept telling myself it was only for 5 weeks, and I managed to do well. I actually thought my 15-week A&P II class was harder to get through (but I did have a pretty awful professor for that class, so that may have had something to do with it). You can do it if you push yourself! :)

At a UC AP1 and AP2 is combined together in 10 weeks. So yes it is doable.
