A&P 1 online this fall - advice please!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I have my bachelors in marketing (grad '08) and am going back to school this fall to finish my nursing school pre-reqs in the hopes of getting in to nursing school for Fall '12. I'm going to stay working full time and therefore can only take online classes. One of my classes this fall is A&P 1. The lab is on campus but lecture is done online. I took the class over 5 years ago but have to retake it because of how long it has been. Plus it will be a good refresher. So the material will not be brand spankin' new.

Any advice from those who have done this class online? I am already stock-piling flash cards haha. How was your online class set up? I've heard of having to do a research paper but that was for microbiology and am hoping it won't be the same for this class.

Thanks!!

My advice!

Don't take it online!!!!

I have not taken A&P online. However, I think if you approach the course like any other online course, you will be fine. Students who take distance education courses are ones who need good organizational skills coupled with motivation. Some students can read a chapter, particularly a subject as difficult as A & P and comprehend it. However, there are other students who need instructors to break down the material in easier to understand concepts. Hence, those students generally take those kinds of courses on campus.

If you have taken online courses before, I am sure you will be fine. Good luck!

I've taken AP1 and 2 online with no labs. I dont know how your school does their AP classes but I had to write essays with scenarios and referring to areas using dorsal, trunk, anterior, things of that nature. This made it easier to recall bones and location to parts of the brain and how the organs work.

I've taken A&P I and II with both the lecture and lab online. Luckily, my textbook was pretty straightforward and I did purchase a study guide that helped to break tough concepts down even further. The textbook had a website that was really helpful as well.

I received A's in both. It is challenging but definitely doable. You just need to figure out how your professor tests. Once you get that figured out, it is much easier to prepare for tests etc.

I'm also taking Micro and its lab online in the Fall. Wish me luck!!!
