Just out of curiosity, during the menstural cycle after ovulation occurs the mature ovum is released from the follicle in response to increased levels of LH, so after the mature ovum is released and if it is not fertilized what happens to it? Is it just released with menstruation or does it does it degenerate like the corpus luteum? Or am I going to deep? :lol_hitti

You will find the answer by doing a search for the "human mentrual cycle". The answer is that the egg is viable for about 36 hours. If unfertilized, it dies and passes through the uterus with the remainder of the uterine lining during menstruation.
