A&P I and II - Prerequisites

Published

Hi everyone,

I am trying to take my A&P I prereq at a local community college (Sacramento City College) but there is a VERY long waitlist. However, I was able to get #2 on the waitlist for A&P II. The school requires that A&P I be taken BEFORE you take A&P II, and I am currently in the process of seeing if they can waive that requirement for me. If they agree to let me take A&P II before I take A&P I, will I be at a serious disadvantage? The way I understand the two courses is that they simply split up the different systems of the body, so it seems like I'll just be learning about different systems in a different order. Am I mistaken? I'm willing to work extra hard, but I also want to be realistic with what I'm getting myself into!

Thanks!

The first part of A&P I also covers some basics.

Most notably you would be missing vocabulary, chemistry, cells, and tissue. The vocabulary is simple and the Chemistry you would have already learned in a G. Chem class. Cells are covered briefly although it's nothing you wouldn't have learned if you've taken a General Biology class.

You'll also be missing some basic histology which once again the significance will depend on your science background.

If you're strong in science then I suppose it's doable but if didn't get As in your previous science classes I wouldn't do it.

[edit] Forgot to include a tidbit about tissue, which I think would be the most difficult deficiency. They'll make reference to the types of tissue and expect you to know what they are. Connective tissue, simple squamous, what is vascular and avascular, etc.

Thanks! I got A's in Gen Chem and Bio, so hopefully I will be okay! Is there a certain section of the book that you think I will be able to catch up on the knowledge for learning about the different kinds of tissue? Like a whole chapter in the Anatomy book on tissue that I can just read on my own?

Be careful...If the school says that a&pI is a pre req to a&pII then there must be a reason why and you "could" petition it, but dont' be surprised if you can't. It would be really dumb if it really was a pre req and its just a split course. Very weird

Any way, gen bio and gen chem are EXTREMELY EASY compared to anatomy and physiology and (when you take it) micro. But if put in extra effort you can excel in A&P too!

Good luck
