A & P through Excelsior..waste of time?

Published

Hi,

I'm in the process of going through LPN school. While I do that, I am doing the self study at Excelsior for A&P. I plan on getting my RN through Excelsior as soon as I get my LPN license.

I was told by another LPN that the A&P through Excelsior is no good since it doesn't have a lab. I'm assuming since it is the one required by Excelsior for the RN it is just fine. I'm pretty sure this LPN is just taking the A&P but is taking everything else through the Community College, so that may be why she thinks I'm wasting my time on the A&P course.

Please set me straight. Is the A&P course throught Excelsior fine or am I wasting my time.

Thanks!

The A&P is fine for Excelsior- I don't know if another school would count it as it doesn't have a lab but for the RN from Excelsior you'd be fine. My state (california) accepted it for licensure requirements, although you may want to check that nothing has changed in your state. It's been 15 years :).

I took regular Anatomy, but for the sake of time I also took the A/P exam rather than taking Physiology. I also took Microbiology via exam.

Thanks! I'll check out our state requirements.

Heather-did you take micro through excelsior, if so, any helpful hints. I took A and P though them and did fine but this seems harder. Any advise???

I guess it just depends on the college or institution. My local college accepts both EC's A&P and the micro. Some institutions don't put too much emphasis on the labs and others do.

Yes, I took micro from Excelsior also. Didn't seem too bad, but remember, it's been 15 years for me :).
