You can find your book with Title, Author and Edition number. You do not even necessarily need ISBN. If in doubt go and look at book in bookstore and then leave. They cannot make you buy it.
I feel it's wrong that bookstores don't release ISBN. My workaround is to write the professor and ask for the name and the ISBN. That is the least they can do for you.
Our program provided us with a list of books and the ISBN numbers which was great but I understand that some programs do not. That is too bad. I would contact your program coordinator and ask for a list direct from them.
