Looking to relocate to Green Bay area

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Hi. A friend of mine directed me to this forum and wow! I'm awed. I've been surfing around a bit this afternoon and I found out a lot of info, but I still need some help.

I'm currently a student in Illinois, and I'll graduate in July with my LPN. I've been accepted into the RN program but I'm not sure I can handle it at this time. The school I attend is quite hard on students, and the RN instructors seem bent on making it hard on students instead of a fun learning experience. Many students transfer to another local college to do their RN after completing the LPN, but I don't have that option.

I'm wanting to relocate to the Green Bay area, but I am not aware of my options for a job. I will be residing near Shawano with a friend until I get my own place, but I'm needing a job right away. Because of school for my kids starting in mid August, it's best that I move right after graduating and take my boards in WI.

My question is this-where can I find job listings since I'm not in that area? Can someone direct me to some websites of hospitals or agencies in the area? Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Hi...

There are four hospitals in the Green Bay local area. They are St Vincent Hospital, St Mary's Hospital Medical Center, Bellin Hospital, and AuroraBaycare medicla Center. There's also a hospitla in Shawano...can't recall it's name right now. Try a search engine...type in the names of these hospitals and Green Bay, wi or hospitla and Shawano, Wi and I'm sure you'll find somehting. Good Luck!

Thanks for replying. I withdrew my application into the RN program today and I'm moving around the first of August. I graduate on July 30, which means I have to take my boards there. I'm contacting the WI state board administration to obtain a packet that I need to take the exam.

BTW, does anyone know what the base rate for starting pay is there for LPN's? I find all kind of info like "make up to $32/hr" but nothing on starting pay. I would be interested to know what it is. I'm betting it's higher than where I am now.

Hi Joybelle,

Good luck with your boards. There are also some great completion programs in this area. Check out Lakeland college and the NWTC locations. There is also a hospital in Oconto Falls, about 1/2 hour from GB and Shawano, and a hospital in Marinette, about 45 minutes from GB.

I just graduated from the RN program at NWTC. Good school. I am also an LPN. I work in Appleton, about 30 min away from GB. I make around $16 an hour. My friends work in GB, and it seems like they all make about $1 more, but that's in a nursing home. Hospitals will probably be around $13-$14.

Wow! Nursing homes pay more than hospitals do? I might go into geriatrics instead!

I have an interview on July 1 with NFC Healthcare, which is a temp agency in GB, and I'm pretty excited about that. I did find out that the RN program in WI is two years because they don't give credit for LPN classes. In IL, they have one year RN for those who are LPN's or two year RN degrees. It stinks that I have two years of school to get my RN, but hey, what else do I have to do but get older?
