Need A School To Attend

U.S.A. West Virginia

Published

I was laid off at Century Aluminum in Ravenswood and I've decided to go to Nursing School. I've been enrolled at WVU-P in Ripley since the summer term.I've completed ALGEBRA,SOCIOLOGY,ENGLISH COMPOSITION, and I'm currently enrolled in PSYCHOLOGY,ENGLISH COMPOSITION 2,CHEMISTRY, and INTRODUCTION TO HEALTHCARE. All my grades have been A's except ALGEBRA which was a C. All my current grades are A's also. I took the ACT 2 weeks ago but I haven't seen my scores yet and I'm scheduled to take the HESI on 10-12-09.

Now , I've gotten that out of the way, can anyone tell me a Nursing Program that I can be accepted into as quickly as possible ? The reason for a quick acceptance is I'm on unemployment and it's important that I get in ASAP in order to have time and funding to finish the program before getting booted off unemployment.

I realize all programs are tough to get into. I just thought possibly someone may know of an area with a school where the acceptance rate may be higher than in other areas. I know in this area of jackson county it seems everyone and his brother along with their aunt lil is wanting into the WVU-P program.

If you know of any place like this that has a good program with a decent acceptance rate please let me know.

thank you very much, Dave.

It would be a bit farther to drive, but Kanawha Valley CTC (formerly WV State CTC) in Institute, has a good program. (I'm biased though since I'm a current student!) They admit based on a point system for things like NET scores, GPA, # college credits, etc. You could keep taking pre-reqs during the spring & summer and then start next fall, if you got into the program.

Here's a link for more info . . .

Hello Dave!

I am also from Ripley. I attend Nursing school at west liberty university near wheeling, wv. It is pretty easy to get into, but they only over a BSN. I have also heard Glenville is easy to get into as well. University of Charleston has a nursing program but it is so expensive to go to school there.

The Glenville State/WVU program is accepting applications for the sophomore class. You would have to take some classes this Spring--notably chemistry, and meet all the prerequisites with at least a 3.0. It's a BSN program that meets all the WVU requirements. The sophomore year in in Glenville; the junior and senior years are at WVUIT in Montgomery. Send me a Private Message if you want more specific information.

Glenville doesn't have a very high rate of their RN'S passing boards.

Glenville State College/ West Virginia University Joint Nursing Program students passed NCLEX in 2009 with 100% pass rate. This may not be on the Board website yet, but you can call either of the schools to verify the accuracy of this statement.

They have definately improved then. When I was looking for a school a couple of years ago I checked out Glenville and they only had a 75% rate! YIKES! LOL. Glad they improved.

I can tell you that I am a senior at WVUIT, and that was one of the reasons I chose that school,... NO WAIT! Their requirements are high, but I spoke to the director of the program, and they are desperate for applicants! We were allocated 32 spots for next year, and only 14 had the qualifications. So if you meet the criteria, it's a good program with quick entry.
