Has anyone done the magnus health thing yet? It seems to be impossible LOL! Is there some form of documentation I should be using. I am trying to upload the state of washington lifetime immunization record (the little booklet that is like 6 pages back and front and about the size of a postcard). What did you all give them as documentation? I appreciate the help

OMG! yes, i've done the health portal immunization blah blah blah thing... its a pain in the rear. Not because of the uploading everything into PDF files, but because whoever is checking them is not accepting them because they are scanned in "not right side up". just make sure when you scan the document (yes, i have the lifetime record thingy too) that you scan it so the document is readable without having to rotate the document. Dont ask me why... but i had some docs that were legal size so i had to scan them in sideways....well, apparently thats not good enough... I had to shrink the stupid thing and make sure it was "right side up".... its dumb really.

But to answer your question, i have the lifetime thing too. What i ended up doing was photo copying it and shrinking it to fit an 8.5x11 piece of paper, then scanning the copy into pdf. They accepted it that way. As long as its legit, I dont think they care because we have to bring the originals into orientation. Soooooooo time consuming, but you can get it done easily if you have all the records on one thing. just make sure that you upload something into each area...example: if you have MMR series 1 and MMR series 2 on the same doc, you will still need to upload something into each area even if they are identical....

haha, i just meant legit as in not written on scratch paper. They've accepted the lifetime record so thats legit :)

I've been reading this thread for a while. I am 19 and have just completed my prereqs for the tcc program. I've applied for the nursing program beginning january 2011, and apparently we hear back in the first two weeks of november. I'm working and saving for the program, but I'm so nervous that I won't get in! Does anyone know how many applicants they usually have each quarter? I heard it was like 200 for fall, but do you guys think it will be less than that for winter and spring?

I just wanted to "join the fray" with all of you and introduce myself, hopefully I may have the honor of meeting you face to face during the program!

Hi there Nathan!

Congratulations on completing your pre-requisites - we all know that's not a small feat! I was fortunate enough to get into the TCC RN Program this past Spring, and I will be starting my second quarter this Fall (it's been a loooong summer, and I'm afraid I've forgotten much of the huge amounts of information I learned!). I know that for the Spring 2010 lottery, there were less than 200 applicants. I cannot remember the exact number, as there were about ten or so that were able to get into the lottery at the last minute (snags in their applications or mistakes made by the nursing office, etc.). Spring is also when they do the part-time lottery, and I think there may have been more applicants for that lottery than for the full-time one.

During our orientation, I remember Nancy Novak mentioning something about how they had seen a drop in applicants, but they weren't sure what to attribute it to. I would say that the Fall 2010 lottery's applicant pool was quite large compared with what I've seen previously - I was surprised at the number. I don't know if this will be a trend with future lotteries, or if it's just indicative of Fall entry.

There are 24 students that started in our cohort. I would imagine that would be the same number they will take for the Winter 2011 lottery. I know there were at least two students taken off the waitlist and put into our cohort - so don't loose hope if you don't get in, but are close on the final list. I was able to get into the program on my second lottery try. I wish you the best of luck - TCC has an awesome program, and I still feel like a very lucky girl to be part of it. :)

Thank you so much Danielle for the very quick response! Yes, the prerequisites were not easy! In your opinion after this first quarter of tcc's program, is the program more difficult than the prerequisites? I have heard both are the harder part! Are you able to work at the same time? If so, how many hours were you still able to work?

Also, I read something about a few of the applicants being "turfed" to a local lpn program for the first year. Did you know anyone who this happened to, or is this a practice that TCC does not use anymore?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they take 24 each quarter, but what is this about a waitlist? I thought TCC did not utilize a waitlist! Do you mean that a few of the first 24 could not make it or had paperwork problems etc. so TCC pulled the next few numbers? If so, that gives me a little hope. I'll just sit here till November hoping everyone has lots of paperwork issues LOL :)

No, I did not work, but I have three children whom my husband and I homeschool - so I would guess that might add up to a full-time job. I do have several classmates who worked during the program - these are very dedicated people who are extremely successful at time-management (honestly, I don't think I could have done it while working, but that's me). I did not find the first quarter to be harder than the pre-req's. However, I know that science becomes more of a focal point in the coming quarters. I am imagining this next quarter to be a difficult one (I also have a friend who is one quarter ahead of me in the program, and she told me so). The first quarter is much more about time management, visiting different clinical sites, listening and learning as much in theory and clinical lab as possible, and succeeding at the last minute assignments that are thrown at you - everything the nursing program does has a purpose (even if it may not seem so at the time!). If you have time to memorize medical terminology (prefix, suffix and root words), that would be very helpful.

I don't know anything about the LPN program at Bates (I know that TCC used to put a few students there for their first year, then transfer them to TCC, but I don't know if they still do so - sorry!).

As far as "waitlist," I didn't mean a set list - what I meant was the few numbers that get picked below the 24 original are usually the ones notified (in order) if someone declined the program (i.e. got in somewhere else) or some other reason (which I can't think of!). Life happens, and sometimes maybe the timing isn't right for somebody - that's where a lucky person (whose number was picked just below the 24) may get an opportunity.

Hey everyone!

I have been reading and following for awhile. And I am thrilled to share that I got into the Fall 2010 cohort. I have orientation on 8/31 and have a ton of stuff that needs to be done!

If anyone have any advise, I would appreciate the insight. Can't wait to start!

My only advice is to make sure you get all your requirements done early (shots, auto insurance info, cpr card, etc.) and it would probably be good to brush up on your medical terminology (as I told Nathan below). That was the one thing I wish I had done, prior to starting my program.
