South Puget Sound VS Centralia Nursing Programs

I am just starting out in my journey of becoming a nurse. I am starting my prereqs this June. I am trying to decide whether to stay at Centralia and commute to my job in Olympia or to move to Olympia, transfer to South Puget Sound, and work, live, and go to school there. Any suggestions?

Hi Hannahjean5, there are a couple of related posts in the student area. I applied to both programs and was accepted to both. I chose SPSCC because they include a hybrid classes (part on campus/part online) that allowed me to work. I did this even though I live closer to Centralia and I work in Rochester.

Well I have since learned that my job will pay for my tuition if I go to SPSCC so that pretty much made my choice easy! I have 2 more quarters at Centralia and will apply this coming winter! =) I wasn't aware of the hybrid classes, very interesting! I will have to check them out! Thanks for the insight! Maybe I will have to hit you up one day for advice again!

... the hybrid classes are not so much by choose or to support distance learning. They are portions of a class (or majority of some smaller classes) that you have online modules for ... I'm just trying to separate this from the idea of hybrid classes where you might think the quarter or degree or majority of your time could be done via distance with a 'pop-in' visit.

Just_cause is correct. However, what happened is that we went to the hybrid class every other week for an hour or two and that still gave me plenty of time to also go to work.

You can certainly "hit me up one day for advice" but please wait until the end of March--we are currently in the most difficult quarter of the program (I shouldn't even be on Allnurses but I needed a break from study). :yawn:

The best advice I could give you is to rethink nursing school. I graduated a year ago and have yet to find a job (don't have that "magical" year of experience).

Can anyone explain a little more about what type of hours are required in the nursing program at SPSCC? I am particularly interested in any info on the hybrid courses. I know some schools do not have any on-line components but I've heard that SPSCC does. At Centralia is it true that one can expect hours to be about 8:00 am to 1:00 pm? What would the hours be for spscc program? Please help --any advice would be beneficial. Thankyou
