Bellevue College 2012 hopefuls

Hello everyone,

I have just applied to Bellevue College for Fall 2012/Winter 2013 and I just want to hear from anyone who has also applied there. What are your TEAS scores? Do you guys know when we will hear back regarding acceptance/ rejection letters? Is Bellevue College your first choice or are you guys spreading out your applications to other schools?

Jammin, good idea to email her, but if you're #7 on the list, it sounds like you have a pretty good chance still! Wow, and you got a great TEAS score....I wonder if the average is higher this year?

I did email her. The wait listed wont hear back until the 11th. It's a shame, but I guess I can get through the stress of just one more month. I was a little surprised that my score wasn't high enough this year. You're probably right about a high average this year. Please keep your fingers crossed for me everyone!

88.7 only put me in the winter quarter. I don't know if that is the top or the bottom. I got an 85 or 86(don't remember) the first time I took it and the head of the CNA program told me that was not high enough to get in! I cried and then re-took it! I think alot of people will get contacted from the waitlist once payment is due. It seems like that is what happened last year. The 11th is the last day to take the e-write. So if anyone didn't take that then some spots will open up.

Now my main question is... Why do I have to take the CNA course when I only want to become a nurse. It seems like a waste of my time and money. I will never work as a CNA because I have another degree to fall back on if I can't get a nursing job.

Anyway, just nothing make sense to me. Thanks for listening!

CyndyRD, the CNA class will teach you basic skills; vital signs, activities of daily living, personal care, proper handwashing, etc etc. From what I understand, the first quarter reviews that information, but it's important to learn it properly the first time around. Also, if you get registered with the state, I believe you are eligible to work as a nurse tech once you have done one quarter of clinicals. (Think possible foot in the door within a given hospital). :)

Thank you very much hereshoping! That makes sense. Nurse tech sounds good!

CyndyRD, a lot of nurses will also say that just because you are an RN does not mean that you are exempt from any "CNA" scut work that your patient needs. A lot of the RNs that work in our hospital work with their CNAs as a team and they wipe butts and put people on bed pans just like the CNAs have to if their patients need it. This is part of the reason why lots of ADN and BSN programs nowadays want you to become a CNA or at least take a CNA course before going to nursing school...because really, being a CNA is the first step to becoming a nurse.

Exactly, Margritamix! I've worked with both - the nurses who won't do ANYTHING that's on a CNA's list of duties, and the ones who work as a team with the CNA, doing whatever is needed when they have the time and are not doing things that a nurse (or higher) can do. It goes without saying, those who work as a team are the best!!!!!

Hey downton,

You had mentioned last week that you were going to take the E-write on Monday or Tuesday. Have you taken it yet? How did it go?

Some other stuff came up, so I can't go until Thursday or Friday. :( I'm not too worried though.

Wow, I'm super late to this party! I can't believe I didn't find you all sooner so I had people to wait (aka lose all remaining sanity) with!

I got my letter of conditional acceptance for the winter cohort on the 14th, and took my Compass test this morning. I got 10/12. Not excellent, but I'll take it! I can't tell you the last time I had to write a persuasive anything, and went in with no preparation whatsoever, so anyone that's nervous- I think you'll be fine, just breathe!

Is there another subject/post where we can all kind of get to know one another, or can we do that here? I'm so flippin' excited to get on with everything. It feels like I've been preparing for this forever and now I just want to start!

Welcome, Noelleanalise! Congratulations for the Compass and the acceptance! What a load off, to know that all is done and we just have to wait now! I'm not aware of any other subject, though I think as we all get our acceptance into fall or winter, we might want to start a separate thread for each class.

Does anyone know, (and yes, it may have been covered in the information session, but I'm on information overload) will there be some sort of information/orientation session before classes start? I'm curious to know about clinical/class days/times, etc., as I'm sure everyone is.

Based on the thread from last year, it looks like they had an orientation for the fall cohort in early June. I think the one for the winter cohort was held in October??? Not completely sure on the month for that one.

Congratulations to all who have taken and passed the e-write so far! I think I am heading in tomorrow to take it. Wish me luck!!!!
