I just found out today that I will be attending the Sept (fall) 2011 PN program for Bates Technical College. I wanted to know is there anyone on here that has been to this program recently or if they are thinking of attending? I am excited because my goals of becoming a RN are getting closer. I am doing the PN program, but will do the LPN-RN bridge after. What should I expect in nursing school. The advisor at Bates told me I should take a dosage, calculation, (math for health) at TCC to get myself ready b/c he has noticed that is what most people have a hard time on and fail or drop out. What does anyone here recommend.

Hey Im in the program now I graduate in July. Its a pretty good program actually like all nursing schools they have their flaws but they relay the info as best as possible. Long as you stay out of the drama and pay attention you will do fine. I dont recommend working more than 20 hours a week because you will feel overwhelmed. You really have to set some time aside for yourself. If your have any other questions let me know

Hey..I go to Bates too. It's a good program, but the administration is a bit disorganized. Just learn to be flexible and roll with the changes and you will be good. Also, I wouldn't bother taking a med math class before you start. They have 2 instructors that co-teach dosage in your first quarter and they do a very good job. I don't think that anyone failed out from that class that quarter. If you want to take anything before school starts I would recommend a medical terminology class(school uses Dean Vaughn). They roll this class in with fundamentals and don't really make a big deal about it...but we had 6-7 people fail out of the program on that component alone.

How do you know that you got into the September 2011 class? They dont let you know until 3-4 months before the program starts.....

Hi I am so late in replying I do apologize, but I got accepted due to a school error. I was originally supposed to start in Spring 2011 but something happened with enrollment and I was moved back into Fall 2011 class. I am officially in this class, just picked up my package today b/c I had to fly home for a family emergency when they did the Nursing Orientation...

HEY LADYNESH I actually just finished my last final today before starting preceptorship as before its a good program you really have to buckle down and put this before anything which has been the hardest thing for a lot of people. Every program has flaws but from what I hear bates have came a long way and make changes for the bette with every class. I do have my old books but they are alredy teaching out of a new edition.

@cmcmillan0322, thank you so much for the advice. I will make sure I do that. I have noticed that schools switch textbook editions every year. I know it is so we can get the most updated information, but makes it harder for us to buy used books. So where are you working? Are you enjoying it? Do you have prior experience? I have prior experience so I have the foundation, but I know this will be very different.
