Hospitals in Indianapolis, Please Help??
Hi, I know this is an older post but I was wondering if you moved to Indianapolis. Also if anyone else moved. I am moving to IN in spring of 2019. I am not a new grad, I have 1 year of acute rn experience but multiple years of home health RN experience and I am currently a RN Case manager for home health. I thought i should get back into the hospital setting to start getting more experience in acute care. I want to get into L&D that's where I want to specialize.

Acute vs. Chronic Dialysis
I really appreciate your experience. I am still in the STAR program with Davita. I am shadowing nurses in Acutes right now and hopefully will begin RN training in Chronics soon. I am really liking the Acutes tho. I was a med/surg nurse at a Level 1 trauma center specializing in surgical, ortho, trauma pts. So dialysis is new to me.

Davita Star RN Program
I have been in the STAR RN program for about a month now. I am learning side by side with the PCTs. They are the eyes and ears for the nurses. They cannulate the patients, get patients on the machines, monitor BPs and VS. They alert the nurses to any sudden changes. You have to have a good foundation. I like how the STAR program, you learn the basics. You learn with them before you start your RN training. I have went home tired many many days because they are very busy especially for me bc I'm slower so takes me a little longer. But they are understanding and they don't rush you. I am awaiting confirmation on my permanent clinic placement. I was told today that there is an opening in the clinic but also in Acutes. I never worked in Acutes before and that makes me a little nervous bc those patients are critically ill. But all I can say is so far so good. Its a good program and you can really learn a lot. Just have to be motivated and determined. I am located in Arizona...Where are you?

Davita Star RN Program
So I heard back from them today. I was offered a position. I was actually offered to go directly into a floor nurse position. I was told I didn't have to the STAR program directly. I will still have the same amount of training time, but I will do all my training at my facility. He said he will be sending me my offer letter and information on my next steps in my email. I am waiting for the email to get started.....

Davita Star RN Program
Hello, I have been offered a position with Davita but first I have to go through their 10 week training program called STAR. I went to their open house located in Phoenix and was very impressed. I work in the hospital now on the med surg floor and the acuity is very high and very stressful at times. I am a BSN RN and only been a RN for 1 year. I dont have any dialysis experience but I do have nursing experience. I was a LPN for 3.5 yrs and Hospital Corpsman for 9 yrs. I work for a Level 1 non profit and I heard Davita is for profit. My reason for leaving my area is bc I am not happy there and I feel very overwhelmed. Also they don't pay enough. Davita pays so much more and that is always a plus. Do anyone have any suggestions and advice?

Possibly Moving to Arizona
Hi, I want to say welcome to Arizona if you have moved already....The cost of living in Arizona is cheaper than Cali, also I am looking into adoption from foster care as well. I started also pursing IUI because my insurance from my job has really good benefits for this. 1. Banner facilities are very good, some are magnet facilities. Banner University is a Level 1 trauma center that is great. You also have St Josephs which is amazing as well, and Honor Health. 2. I stay in the Phoenix area and I work with Banner University, but you want to weigh your options. 3. I am not sure about the ED RN salary, what I would do is check online for the average in that area. Look at Mayo clinic, in their job description, they usually have what the salary is so you can use that as a guide. I wish you the best of luck on your journey

New Grad RN- moving to AZ
Hi, I'm also a New Grad BSN RN that has started at Banner end of August. Our starting pay ranged from $26-$28. Also depending if u r nights r days will determine shift diff. (18% for nights.) Banner is a wonderful Hospital to work for and they have a lot of locations around the valley. Depending on what your scene is will determine what u like to do. I'm 35, but I'm into Urban so my scene is more Mills Ave in Tempe and Westgate areas. Living: I stay in Laveen,South Phoenix area. Houses are big, Nice communities and cheaper. Now if u want more upscale living style, head towards Scottsdale, Tempe, or Mesa. Higher and depending on where u choose the work, Phoenix traffic is HORRIBLE during rush hours. Welcome to Arizona...

New BSN RN and Undecided Where To Apply
Hello everyone, I would really like some guidance. I am a new RN, (passed NCLEX on 1st attempt on August 8, 2016:up:) I am currently working in home health care. I was a LPN and when I became a RN, I started doing Skilled Daily Visits with my company instead of Private Duty. I like the freedom I have traveling around and performing my daily visits, but I feel I am missing out on the RN experience. I want that RN background that you receive working in a hospital. Seeing multiple patients and performing multiple tasks/skills. I don't know which way I want to go. I been with my company for over a year, but only as a LPN, now I am a RN, I want to branch out, but I don't want to let them down. I know I need to do what's best for me, but honestly all doors are open now as a new BSN, RN and I just don't know which one to go through. Can someone please help me? Thank everyone for their positive support and replies.......

NCLEX RN Advice
Hello everyone! I wanted to give an update. I passed my NCLEX RN on the 1st attempt. It was very hard for me and with my background as a LPN, it was still hard for me. I took my test on August 8, 2016. I had a total of 236 questions with 28 SATA, 12 'put in correct order', and only 5 math. My test was mainly DELEGATION & PRIORITIZING. Those two subjects are a 'MUST KNOW'. I felt so overwhelmed and confused when I took this. That night I couldn't sleep, I felt in my gut that I failed, I was so disappointed in myself. I wanted to just cry and cry and cry. I found out the next day on the Arizona BON site that I passed. I found out quicker than utilizing the 48hrs 'unofficial results'. I studied only with the Saunders RN book/online questions. I found out about the ncsbn nclex study material too late. If I had known, I would have utilized their information since they write the test. I scored a 97% on my ATI, but I still felt unprepared. I would recommend to anyone to utilize the NCSBN NCLEX test questions and rationales.

BE HONEST! What part of your job do you hate?
What I hate is that I left my skill rehab weekend job due to hours to do home health nursing at the moment for pediatrics while I'm I'm RN nursing school bc the hours where better for me. I graduate in March 2016. But what I do not like is how the family I work for make me feel like I'm the dang maid as well as babysitter and lpn nurse all in one. I feel they take advantage of their nurses, example, load and wash dishes, do laundry, clean pt room clean her bathroom also, I'm at the point to where I wanna scream. I'm a nurse not housekeeper I remember seeing the caregiver come to work while I'm there just to clean they house like a maid, what kind of stuff is that, she didn't even do anything with pt bc I was there but she was cleaning and mopping the whole house and cleaned the parents room and bathroom. Now I'm curious what Homehealth nurses have as for as responsibilities.

LPN Advance Placement @ Gateway Community College, Arizona
Good Morning everyone! I just have a question. I will be applying for advance placement for LPN-RN @ Gateway CC in Arizona. I graduated from Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Wa with an AA in Applied Sciences. I do have my LPN license transfered to Arizona already. My transcript finally got transcribed @ Gateway but it only shows as AA in General Studies and 1 class. I am a little bit confused. I will be going to see the advisor on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with transfer credits. All my PreReqs were completed and done at CC before going into my LPN program and those transferred, but Im concerned about my AA from Bates. Please help if you can, I'm very confused. Oh also, on the website for Gateway says that if I am a LPN, just have to have unrestricted, valid license and Fingerprint card, so do I need to worry about my transcript from Bates?

Preceptorship Preparation
Hello everyone....I've made the long journey and if I pass my Neurology final next Friday I start preceptorship beginning July 2nd. (fingers crossed) My question is what do I need to prepare myself? When we where at clinicals, I noticed some nurses had nursing bags or organizers filled with supplies. I am going to be preceptoring in L&D ward, (my dream to become a midwife). I already bought a 'Nursing Organizing Belt' & "OB/GYN & Peds Notes: Nurse's Clinical Pocket Guide", I have a good stethoscrope already, a pad & pens, whatelse would you recommend. I will be wearing hospital scrubs which don't have many pockets, which is why I bought the pouch in the first place.... Can someone help me make my first list..... Thanks
