Anyone accepted to Georgetown?

I was accepted to the ABSN, the Direct Entry into ACNP and also just received notification that I earned the scholarship also! That scholarship acceptance definately made my decision an easy one to make, so I will be there in the Fall. I'm glad you started this thread Kelzy because I'm having a hard time finding others who will be attending Georgetown with me in the Fall and I'd like to get to know some people. Tell me though, what is it that you are wavering about? Which school would you rather go to? 80% is a hard scholarship to pass up, but 3 years is a long time you are right. Also remember though, 20% at Georgetown is still a lot of money though, so there's definately still an expense, and still a lot to weigh. When do you think you will decide by (remembering that the deposit is due in a week....)

I'm having a hard time because I'm from California and it's really not fun to decide if I'm going to want to be in DC for four and a half years. I liked the campus and what I saw of the city on my visit there, but I just don't know. The scholarship's great, but I keep wondering if I'm going to feel like I'm working somewhere because I have to, not because I want to. Also, I'm not crazy about doing all of my clinicals at the same place, and there's no guarantee that I'll get to work in the unit of my choice when I graduate.

And all that said, it's still 80 percent. Although everyone keeps telling me not to pick a school just for the money aspect. Bleeeeeeh, this sucks! I have to decide by this weekend!! :banghead:

Well, what does NYY have to offer that Georgetown doesn't? I don't know much about NYU, so that is a question that you will have to ask yourself. I personally think it would be great if you decided to go to Georgetown, because then I'd at least be able to start talking to someone whom I will be joining in August, but this is definately a huge decision for you, but a decision that you will have to be making for yourself. How much does NYU cost? I know that money isnt' everything, but does the 80% scholarship make Georgetown financially obtainable when NYU isn't or is the money not an issue to you? Which one is your first choice? What made you decide to apply to NYU? What made you apply to Georgetown?

Also, just curious when you had your interview. Wondering if you had it on the 13th when I did because that way I may be able to put a face to the person I'm talking to. Either way, let me know what your thoughts are and I will give you any advice that I can.

Gee, I know this post is four months after you guys have posted, but I just was browsing around and saw it; I hope one of you might help.

I am waiting to see if I get into the Accelerated BSN program at Georgetown; I could have gone into Direct Entry but was afraid to commit to D.C. (or Georgetown)for so long since I live in California, too. I'm ALSO afraid to commit to the WHC scholarship program. What did you guys end up doing?

I figured out that the three years working there would actually cost way more in living expenses than borrowing the money the scholarship pays for. I have all the tuition, it's the money for rent, etc., that I need.

Also, does everyone selected for the "first draft" HAVE to attend an interview? I figured they would.

Any information about Georgetown will be greatly appreciated.

Hey there!

So I ended up choosing to go to NYU because of all the reasons you've listed, pretty much. I'm from CA, and I couldn't commit to the three year scholarship at WHC. It was just too much time for me when I wasn't even sure if I would like the city yet. I mean, I visited and I knew I liked it, but it's different when you live there, you know?

For me, NYU was a better choice even though I'm going to be paying all those loans back. You have to just decide what's best for you. Have you gone to the Georgetown interview yet? I applied for the scholarship even though I didn't think I wanted it. I interviewed at WHC and at Georgetown before I made up my mind about anything. That way I had all the information before I decided anything.

I have no idea if that was helpful at all, but there you have it. Feel free to ask me anything else and I'll try to answer :)

The one thing I really want to know is if we NEED to actually GO to Georgetown to interview; I read somewhere on the Georgetown website that "undergraduates" (even though the ABSN program technically is not an undergraduate program) can interview with alumni in the AAP program close to where they live.

I'm pretty sure that you have to actually go to the school to interview. The program is highly selective and I think they like to meet everyone. There's a group interview and individual interviews

About how many people were at your interview? They offerred us the 12th (of September), or the 18th (which I picked). We don't have the packet/RSVP yet (we weren't notified that we had received interviews until last Friday evening!), and I have to go TODAY to arrange travel stuff.

Also, when you interviewed, did they mention anything about being able to defer a semester? I'm still taking two classes and won't finish this semester until the 18th of December; Georgetown starts January 7 - YIKES!! That's just too soon to pull up stakes and go. I will if I have to, but think, at this point, I'd like to defer until Fall '09 so as to take more time and get things together (e.g. I'm taking my dog and will have to rent a house with a yard, etc.).

I don't know about the deferment process, but there were about 22 people at my interview session and there were 3 interview sessions. About starting class right after though, many in my cohort did that. One of my roommates actually took an online final a week after she moved in (about 2 days before classes started here at GT) so it is very possible. I'm assuming that your class isn't online though, but as long as you feel you are going to pass without a problem, it's definately worth it to start when you can.

But, do you know if one can defer? I know I'll find out at the interview, but I know that you interviewed this past spring, and I saw another poster that interviewed in Fall of 2008 and said she deferred to Fall of 2009.

There is nothing about deferment on the website, or in any literature I've read.

Before you think I'm a nut, I just wanted to say that the reason I haven't asked Laura Adams directly (about deferment) is that I thought it might "red flag" my status, especially since I only got in all my stuff for the application deadline on the last day (I hadn't decided). At the time, I didn't know the Spring semester started so early.

The general University website says that "first year student" may defer, but then says "transfer students" may not. I'm not sure what status first-year ABSN students are.

Also, I looked up the other posts for the person who posted here and claimed she deferred and, after she posted that information, saw that she was posting on another thread and claimed she got in to Duke, too.
