Virginia/virginia Beach nursing salaries

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

I will be moving to Virginia Beach and I am interested in the salary ranges-I have 18 years of CCU/ICU experience and I am CCRN certified- any ideas? What about some specific recomendations for sentara hospitals? Also, any information on Hyperbaric nusing jobs would be greatly appreciated-Thanks

Im not sure what you would make with all of your experience but I know the pay here is VERY, VERY low compared to other states. New grad LPN's start at Sentara at 9 an hour and RN's start at 13. (so I'm told, I'm only a student) Almost everything here is owned by Sentara. Its a great place to live but the cost of living is extreemly high here. I hope some one will chime in and be able to answer you question better, and I hope that the pay rates that I was told were wrong, for both of our sakes!:)

Actually, new grad RN's start at $18.25/hr at Sentara hospitals as well as at CHKD plus shift diffs....I believe Sentara's new grad LPNs start around $13/hr

As far as the pay for your experience, I'm not sure!!!

Oh, Thank God! I was about to cry when someone told me 12 or 13 an hour, and she is an Rn at Sentara. Grrrrrr!

Thank you for setting that straight.:)

Princess74,

Maybe that was the pay rate she was hired at???

The 18.25 payrate just took effect this year. When I first interviewed at KD I was offered 17/hr in March (Sentara was previously at 17.50/hr) and then they matched Sentara's new pay rate to stay competitive. KD also raised their night shift diff to $5/hr (from $3).

That would be Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters or CHKD.. locally we call it KD.

Wondering if you have moved yet to virginia and if you have found your dream job, i am contemplating a move to hampton or virginia beach from Michigan and having trouble comparing wages. I want a day shift M-F job someday and that will never happen where I am now. So tired of working for a small hospital run by morons. Have 4 1/2 yrs experience in stepdown and med surg nursing.

I have taken a position at the Sentara hospitals-but choose to work nights as they pay 9$ hour more. Most jobs with them are every other weekend positions but as I recall they had plenty of day positions available. Renee

Interesting. My fiance is a nurse and we're moving to that area. We want to move to Chesapeake area and she might want to work at Chesapeake General Hospital. Has anyone heard anything on them like pay and weekend pay like that Sentara stuff? Any info ya'll can provide on Chesapeake General would help us out a lot. She is graduating in May w/ a four year degree in nursing and has a preference in working in ER or cardio, but she's pretty flexible (or so I think).

Thanks!

....

Chesapeake General Hospital falls under the umbrella of Chesapeake Health

Their website is http://www.chesapeakeheath.com

The two main hospitals under Chesapeake Health are Chesapeake General in Chesapeake Virginia and Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head area of North Carolina. Hope this helps. I'm sorry I do not have any salary information though.
