Student Applying to NVCC For Nursing Program Starting in Fall 2013

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi Everyone!

I really wanted to begin a thread about NVCC's Nursing Program due to begin in Fall 2013 (Applications are due May 2013). I am starting my pre-reqs in January, because I have been in school elsewhere. I know it will be tight to get them completed in time to apply, but I want to be considered in time for the Fall 2013 program.

For anyone who has applied and been accepted to NVCC's nursing program, or for anyone who plans to in May, will you tell me what your credentials were (GPA, TEAS score, any certifications etc)? As in, if you could describe the perfect nursing school application, what would it include?

I want to do this right! Any support/insight is great.

Tricia328,

So far the only things that you can begin are the background investigation, drug test, and immunizations tracker because NVCC has not provided any more guidance regarding the other requirements.

Okay so it's fine if my background check and drug test is already completed?

Tricia328,

Yes. You then have to upload the pages to your profile on CertifiedBackground.com for them to be shown as completed. Also get all incompleted immunizations done.

To all traditional nursing program students,

I have sent several emails to Mr. Shaw asking for more guidance and he has sent me several replies asking me to be patient and to wait until the Nursing Blackboard is up and running. Since we do not have any information on how to fulfill the Blood Borne Pathogens training, I searched the NVCC website and I found the BBP training at Bloodborne Pathogens :: Northern Virginia Community College. You should review the slides and then take the short quiz at the end. Then wait for guidance and where to send the quiz for grading. I am going to do it now rather than wait until July 22nd and then rush to get it done.

Everyone,

The Bloodborne Pathogens training slides on the NVCC website also identify who the completed quiz needs to be sent to for grading. I emailed mine last night.

Thanks, NOVA EMT for the information. Another question in regards to the background check/ drug test. I've uploaded the results to the certified background to-do lists, and they say "complete" next to the status. Do we need to submit the results elsewhere?

By that I mean do we need to email our results or bring them to orientation? In that one email, he said the last page of our background check and drug tests need to be uploaded to something, but maybe that has something to do with the orientation website.

I just want to make sure they know that I've completed it and such before orientation.

Thanks!

Tricia328,

To the best of my knowledge the background check and drug test results only need to be uploaded to the CertifiedBackground.com website. "Complete" means that the requirement has been satisfied.

Hello all!

Current NVCC 2014 Nursing student here. Congrats to everyone that has made it into the program!

In regards to the background check/drug screen. Only the last portion of each section with the page that has a logo with a code on it needs to be uploaded onto CertifiedBackground. For orientation, you will want to print out those pages as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Also, if it was anything like last year, be prepared for an unorganized mess!

Edit: Also feel free to add me to your Facebook group and I can answer any questions there! https://www.facebook.com/Etrips

ETrips or anyone else,

It appears that we have to take an initial drug dosage calculations test in order to determine whether we will have to take NUR 135 (Drug Dosage Calculation). Is that correct? If so, then does that mean that a student does NOT have to take NUR 135 if the student passes the initial drug dosage calculations test?

That is correct. It is a pretty easy math test. Just brush up on how to do basic math (multiplication, long division, adding, subtracting). ALSO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. If it says round to the nearest hundredths, then they mean that!

Is it a test of basic math skills or a test of drug dosage calculation skills? There is a big difference.

Basic math. Shoot me an email and I can send you the study guide that they gave us.
