U.S.A. Virginia

Hello Everyone!

Has anyone ever attended Stratford University in Fairfax, VA for the BSN Program? If you have, please let me know how it was. There's a good chance I might be going there in October. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

*Jenn

Hey Nursetobe67- thanks for your reply! I'm trying to email you back but don't have enough posts! I hope it's just that these are the prereqs and that things get better in January! If you don't mind, please keep me updated. If I do attend it would be in August so it would be good to hear as much as I can get before then! I met with the military liason a couple of weeks ago and he was supposed to set me up with a time to meet with an advisor but I haven't heard back from anyone yet... if I do I'm hoping to arrange to see some of the classes so maybe I'll see you there!

Thanks again!

Jackie

I just wanted to update everyone now that I have finished my 5th week of actual nursing classes. I think my overall impression of the nursing department (Dr. Kahn not included) is that they are really interested in making their program as good as it can be. The nursing teachers so far are very good and the classes are very hard. It was a huge shock going from super easy prereqs to extremely hard nursing classes. Given all that... my advice to anyone interested in this school...the nursing program is good... 9-10 weeks though so be prepared to do a LOT of studying/reading etc every single week. People keep complaining about how much work it is but honestly... it's an accelerated program so be prepared for that and I would suggest only 2 classes at a time. My other advice would be to take your prerequisites somewhere else and transfer them in. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on those prereqs because I really didn't learn anything yet I still got an A. Which is fine for the classes like Ethics etc. BUT, for A&P - I just really wish I had a tougher teacher in that class because I hardly did any work for that class and still got an A yet I hardly know anything about the subject.

I think that's about it! As usual, feel free to email me if you have other questions!!

I am about to start the nursing program at Stratford. I just want to make sure that the program is legit and good, because I heard a nasty rumor that some hospitals wont accept this degree. But then I thought, even if you are a nurse, it really doesn't matter too much where you went to college, because the NCLEX license is what really matters and for any nursing program at any school in virginia, everyone will still have to take the same license exam to get their nursing license. Am i correct??? Thanks

I also want to help anyone out with some information I found out. As long as you are not under financial aid at Stratford, you can take all your pre-req classes at NOVA or any other community college thats much much cheaper. So basically, I am taking one course at Startford, while taking 6 other pre-req courses at Nova at the same time and saving about 9000 grand in tuition fees. The courses that previously transferred over for me were Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Psychology, Computer class, English, Biology, all those pre-req courses. But there were more I needed so The specific courses I am taking at Nova while at Stratford are Ethics, Microbiology, Business Management and Human Resource Management(elective pool 3), Life Span Human Development, and Statistics. This will save you a ton of money to take all your electives and prereqs at a community college and then transfer them all over and only spend the big bucks on the actual NURSING classes. But before I did that, I made sure with admissions and the dead that every single one of those classes I still needed got approved that they would transfer to stratford from nova. So let me know if you have any questions. All I want to know is I really hope Stratford is a decent and respectable school for me to get a bachelors degree at.

Dean* not dead, sorry. :)

Hello and welcome to Stratford U,

Yes you are correct, it really does not matter where you went to school because the NCLEX is the same across state lines. I currently attend the University and am pleased with the nursing program thus far. The nursing courses are challenging as they should be, but as long as you remain focus and study your material you will do well. I have yet to hear anything negative about the program as I do with some of the established and big name schools in the area. With that being said, the program is fairly new and in the process of being established; not to many people know about it yet. One thing I can say is that the instructors and the Director are familiar with area and come from some of the more well-known schools (nursing programs) in the area. I am enjoying being in the program thus far and am glad with my decision to attend Stratford U. If you have any specific questions about the program feel free to PM me. Once again, welcome aboard!

hey nurse tobe67,

How are you doing at stratford. I am looking at going to a private school now, the CC or just to darn competetive! let me know what you think so far

thanks,donna

were you able to take college algebra at NOVA to transfer to Stratford?

I think it's common sense that the school you go to is not the determining factor for employment, it's passing the NCLEX!

Hello! Im happy to hear you like the program thus far. have you graduated yet? and if so, have you found employment as an RN after graduating from Stratford. And if so, did you have a hard time at all when looking for a position because you had a degree from Stratford

I have been researching information on Stratford University Nursing program. I am going to meet up with a advisor just to get more information on the nursing program. I am torn between this school and Shenandoah university. However, Shenaodah is too far and what attracts me to Stratford university is the fact that its near by and that 10 week quarters. I can finish quickly. That is what attracts me. Thus, please help me and let me know that after you graduated from this school were you able to pass the NCLEX easily.

so how many prerequisites in total were you supposed to take for the RN program for Stratford? And also what were they and were you able to take them all at nova or you took them at other community colleges? Thanks in advance
