Richmond Nursing Schools

Ok, I need some help from you out there. I am planning on going back to school to get my RN, but I need to work to be able to pay for it (at least some time according to my spouse). What are your opinions of the colleges in Richmond? Which ones should I really consider? I am willing to go to school for my LPN first, then start working and go back for my RN if I get people that say this is a good idea.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm in the same boat. My husband keeps telling me that I will have to work at least part time while I'm in school. I've been taking all of the pre-requisites at J. Sarge for the last year. I finished in December, so now can start applying to nursing school. I have a friend who is in their nursing school as well, who is working full time and going to school. I think there are 2-3 days of classroom and 1-2 days of clinical. She works a lot of weekends and late nights though.

I've also thought about applying to J. Sarge's LPN program if I don't immediately get into the RN program. My step-father went the same route a few years ago, and when I asked him his thoughts on me following the same path, he said it would be a good way to go. At least if you get your LPN first, you can work part time while getting your RN, and getting experience as well.

Make sure to check into all grants, financial aid, and scholarships you can. It's smart to get the non-nursing courses out of the way, it will ease things when you become a nursing student.

I (personally) would avoid the LPN first route, just because it could take much longer than you intend and you can get sidetracked.

Currently, I'm in school FT and working FT, but likely towards the fall I'll have to look at working PT.

If you happen to go to Bon Secours for nursing, they offer different jobs based on your nursing level (years under your belt). Ex: 1st level students can work certain jobs, 2nd and 3rd level students are qualified for more.

Where there's a will, there's a way!
