NVCC Online Hybrid RN Program, Spring 2014

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hello!

This thread is for those of us who are applying for Spring 2014 entry into NVCC's online hybrid RN program. I know applications must be postmarked by October 18th in order to receive consideration. I've looked at past threads for hopeful students and it seems customary to post prereq. GPA and TEAS results, so I'll start:

Prerequisites Completed: BIO 141, 142, 150, and CHM 101. Prereq. GPA: 4.0

Prerequisites in Progress: BIO 101 (coursework will be completed by October 5th)

TEAS Scores: 97.6% in Reading, 100% in Math, 90% in Grammar

The only thing I'm worried about at this moment is making sure that my BIO 101 grade posts by October 18th. My instructor is definitely in my corner in terms of making sure that I meet the application deadline, but my experience with ELI has been far from pleasant (the only certainty with ELI is that Murphy's Law always applies).

And, if anyone who has been through this program is reading, I do have one question: is this program four truly consecutive semesters? That is to say, will it be Spring 2014, Summer 2014, Fall 2014, and Spring 2015? I know that they offer the two nursing classes required for the second semester (Maternal/Newborn Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing) in the summer (well, at least they did last summer). If this is the case, I am even more stoked to begin this program!

Yeah, psych and OB for summer

Hey Hanoi98, thank you very much for the information. Assuming I am admitted, this is going to be a hectic, but awesome, 17 months!

6 wks of psych and 6 wks of OB. Definitely lightning speed... But fun..,,

So, they moved the application deadline back two weeks (to just this past Friday). I received an email last night that my application had been received and processed.

hanoi98, how long did it take you to get your email acceptance or rejection after you received this email?

I am at clinical right now. When i get home, i will look for my acceptance letter and let you know the exact date. But it was fast though. The orientation was 11/9. So you should know before that. They also pushed back the dateline for my admission cycle too.

My dateline was 10/3. Decision letter mailed out on 10/26. Orientation was 11/9. I think you should get your letter in about 2 weeks. This year got late start. There is so much stuff to do before starting the program.

Good luck with everything. If you have any question at all, let me know. I am happy to answer. Maybe i will see you around campus in the spring.

I got my provisional acceptance by email last night. All I can say is that I am extremely thankful for this opportunity.

Hey hanoi98, I have two more questions I hope you can answer:

1) Our orientation is December 11th. I was told that I would need to buy some sort of book/software package for the program on the day of orientation. Do you have any idea what this is and how much it costs?

2) In regards to the drug test: I'm currently on a prescribed medication that has shown up on previous work-related drug tests. For one drug test, I was asked for my prescription number right over the phone. For the other drug test, I had to have my physician call the testing company to verify my prescription. Would you happen to know if I'll have to go through the hassle of getting my physician to verify my prescription or if I'll just be able to give my prescription number over the phone? I know this is kind of strange and pedantic question, but my physician's office manager is extremely forgetful and it took ages for her to verify my prescription the last time.

Thanks again for all of your guidance in this process. I'll definitely PM you after orientation. I hope we get the chance to meet and talk about our aspirations in the world of nursing.

Congratulation! I felt the exact same thing last year.

About the books, there are 2 packages, one from Elsevier (contain most of the nursing book), one from Pearson for OB. They recommend you buy the Elsevier one at orientation, the books and access code cost about 900. Check with them to see if you could buy the access code only ( you need that to do the assignment) and hold off on the books. I am sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere. You should get them early though, they will post the reading assignment before class starts, you can read them in advance.

About the drug test, i don't know. My suggestion is call the facility to ask their policy, if it were me, i would try to get a doctor note in advance.

Please let me know if you have any other question.

If you have the fund and the time is too short to hunt down books, might as well to buy them at orientation.

Received my provisional letter of acceptance! As much as I want to do the program, I have actually chosen to go to Marymount instead. I hope that someone else gets my spot, and good luck to everyone else!

I got my acceptance letter for the Spring 2014 class and can't wait. I have finished all non nursing courses except the PSY 202. The counselor told me to take that in the spring.

I had a question regarding our schedule. The in person part is how many days a week?
