UTA Spring 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello everyone! Just wanted to start this thread for anyone planning on attending UTA's nursing program in the Spring of 2013.....

I am working on the last of my pre-reqs right now at TCC, but I plan on attending UTA this fall to take Intro to Nursing, Patho, and Pharm... Anyone in the same boat???

@nici0513, I think spring semester is less competitive. You should apply anyway and see what will happen :)

I heard that Spring was worse....

I've heard spring was better as well but clearly we will never know since the advisors love to play mind games! Who knows! Hope for the best, expect the worse.

thank you and the same to you!

@thomasphan, i would go ahead with uta if it wasn't for having to spend more money and time on classes this summer & fall that i only need for them when my odds at getting in are not good. i was willing to do it before because i thought i had a pretty good chance (according to my advisor). but from doing research and feedback from this thread, it looks like my advisor was 'sugar-coating' my odds. good luck to everyone of you and to all of you that got wait-listed, i'm sure it will work out in your favor! if i don't get into twu, i should have no problem getting into the adn program a tccd. if that is route i'll have to accept, then maybe i will still get to go to uta when i transition, it's just not meant for me now!;)

hi nici0513,

you may want to also look into el centro adn and mountain view adn program. i don't know where you live but both of those adn programs participate with uta with the pathways program. for anyone that has not completed the uta bsn prereqs, the adn program will work with your schedule and let you complete those classes while getting your adn. once your adn is complete and you are an rn, you will automatically be accepted into the rn-bsn bridge program with uta...and it's only an additional 13 months.

i have been accepted to navarro's adn program. i am also applying to the mountian view adn program (deadline to apply for fall 2012 admission is june 7th!) as mountain view is closer to me. i missed the el centro deadline for fall, and they require an additional prereq that other schools do not....hprs (specific to only the el centro campus). i have heard wonderful things about el centro also, you get to do clinicals at all of the major dallas hospitals and they have a special partnership with methodist hospitals.

just so everyone knows (in case you didn't already) the mountain view adn program is new, this will be the second year for it. they only accept 40 people but since it is still kind of unheard of (until now :)....your chances are pretty good. check it out!

Thanks rubyredd83!! I'm looking into it right now! I would love to get in a program in the Fall since I'll be done with all my pre-reqs in like 2 weeks! We made an unexpected decision to move to Ft Worth at the end of May to be closer to my mom to help with the kids while I finish school and that's why my plans changed. It was too late by apply to all the Fall start programs by then, but I'll check this out!

I have always heard that their are generally less applicants in the Spring. I think since the AP BSN online program started that the number of overall applicants have significantly increased even after they "weed" applicants that really don't qualify, there is still a huge applicant pool.

If nursing is what you really want to do, then I think it is a good idea to apply to other programs and not just UTA.

Is anyone planning on attending the info session in May?

@rubyredd - Great advice! I would love more than anything to go through a university to get my BSN, but it just seems way more competitive than anything now! I will definitely try to Mountain View ADN program as a plan C! An extra 13 months is nothing I'm young I got time! I have a pretty good chance of getting in ... Well from the points I calculated @ least! Thanks so much for that info!

I'm pretty familiar with mountain view program. It's new BUT it favors its students like UTA as well. MVC uses the point ranking system so you pretty know where u are in the ranking pool and MvC students have extra points. You are required to take hesi at their school too.

Can someone please tell me when orientation is again for Fall 2012? I know it's been posted but I can't find it. Since I have absolutely nothing left to take I am trying to find out my fall enrollment plans (in case I don't get called off the waitlist) but classes start on Aug 20!! I don't want to register if I might get called AFTER that date because it would count against my drop limit. Hope this makes sense! Basically, I am hoping orientation is before August 20 :)

@thomasphan - Thanks for the info! I have set up an appointment with them and TWU so hopefully they won't BS me.

@nicki - Have you thought about a minor?

I didn't want to have to do the ADN program because I just wanted to go straight through and get my BSN, but UTA is not looking so good for me right now either because I have NO CONSIDERATIONS. I guess I have no other choice than to try and get into a ADN program, but who knows, maybe its better that way... I can finish the ADN program, hopefully start working while working on a bachelors through the RN-to-BSN program??? Like I told myself at the beginning though...I will try my best and let everything happen the way its suppose to happen...

@tnuh - That is exactly how I feel! I could've been a nurse if I would've just went through an ADN program. BUT @ Least if we do decide to go that route we will be building up experience while working towards our BSN. Don't worry about it! Like you said it will happen the way it is suppose to. UTA isn't our only option we will become great nurses regardless what school we go to!
