Volunteer work in South East Asia

Hi there,

I'd love it if you guys could help me out.

I'm a third year nursing student in Canada, and I am planning on going to Thailand for about a month in February. I'm planning on travelling around the country for 2 weeks, and then i would LOVE to volunteer somewhere in the medical field for about 1-2 weeks in the end of February. I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this before, and how it worked. I'm open to any kind of volunteer work in South East Asia.

Any help would be appreciated.

Happy New Year!

Heather

I responded to your other post, please check it out.

Just so you know, there are not actually travel nurse assignments available in SE Asia, so this forum will not give you much in the way of results. You will do much better on the International forum, where you have already posted.

Hi !!

I went to Bangkok Thailand after I finished nursing school for two months last summer (2004) to do research on Cardiovascular health and I also got to go to the International HIV/AIDS conference. It was awesome. If you can, go visit the HIV hospital there and take a tour. It will really open your eyes to the "face" of the disease and you can use that exerience to teach prevention to your patients. Also, there is lots, and lots of shopping to do, so bring one suitcase for your stuff and another empty suitcase to pack all the stuff you will buy!!! Trust me. I had to pay over $100 US dollars because my stuff weighed more than the maximum when boarding the plane. There is a nursing shool there at Assumption University. The teachers there are very nice and can show you around. PM me and I can give you more details. Good luck and have a great time!!!!!;)
